Confessions of a shoe-aholic... and some stuff about school.

J&M gave me a tip off yesterday that the DSW in South Jordan was closing, so Nathan and I got very explicit directions to it (since we got lost finding that store last time we went; our map led us to the middle of nowhere before we just gave up) and went on a shopping expedition.  I know, I didn't need anymore shoes; I was the first to admit it.  But I had a $5 off coupon for my birthday (if I spent $20), and who can pass that up?  Especially since when we got there, everything left was on clearance, PLUS an additional 70% off.  So pretty much everything left was under $15, most more like $5.  As always, a good chunk of the shoes were hideous, but... I still came home with 4 pairs... for only $25!

I wore these to church today... very comfortable, despite the tall heel.  And I can wear them in winter!  (Okay, so admittedly they have a peep toe, but I didn't get too much snow on my toes.)

Nothing too flashy, just some fun flats (well, flat for me) to slip into (when the snow's finally melted...)

Nathan picked these out. :)

Ah, who can resist black strappy sandals???  They had them in gold as well, but black's more versatile (and I don't own any gold jewelry anyway; I prefer silver).  Plus my current favorite black pair is in retirement because they're wearing out.

We also got a shirt each on clearance at American Eagle (they were also having a large sale, so their clearance items were buy one get one half off).  All in all, it was quite a successful shopping trip!

As a side note, I think I might have Nathan hide some of the shoes until it gets warmer so as to spread out the joy - especially since I can't wear some of them til the snow melts anyway. :)
In other news, Nathan got into Brandon Sanderson's Writing Science Ficiton class!  He's very excited, and hopefully it will help him finish his book.  He's also excited because Sanderson promised he'd teach how to get published, not just how to write, which is (ultimately) much more useful.  I'm tentatively (and unofficially) auditing it; tentatively because I work during the first hour of the lecture, and unofficially because he doesn't care how many people audit, he just can't grade all those finals so he only added enough to make the class 20 people.  I found his first lecture highly entertaining, and I definitely wouldn't mind sitting in on his lectures.  (I just don't want to write 2000 words a week and post it for peer review.  That's more Nathan's idea of fun than mine.)

And now for a breakdown of my classes this semester:
Latin Dance (intermediate): Nathan and I signed up to take this class together, but we're considering dropping it due to an overly picky and intense teacher.  I've heard alarming things about this guy, and while I like getting good at a dance, I don't really like being singled out and picked on in the process... plus he's requiring that all ladies buy a latin skirt and shoes, and men buy latin shoes (and latin pants are encouraged).  I already have shoes, but skirts run $35+, and Nathan's shoes would be another $70 probably.  That's a little much to pay for one semester of dancing, especially since you can't do anything with them after that.  So... even though I really enjoy the samba, and Nathan's wanted to learn Paso Doble for at least a year, we might scratch this class.  (We should have just not dropped it last semester; that teacher was way cooler.)

Neuro 481: this neuro lab will be very fun.  I'm taking it with a good friend, plus it's just a fun class.  Our first week we took pictures of neurons and measured how big they were.  I was amazed at how beautiful they are!  (Again!)  We spend the first half of the semester on histology, and the last half on physiology and behavior.

PDBio 362: Advanced Physiology.  It meets at 8am, so... not a good thing.  I've yet to make it through class without falling asleep.  But hopefully it will be interesting, once we get past osmosis and all that stuff that I know enough about to not be able to stay awake while the professor tells me more...

PDBio 363: the accompanying lab.  All we've had so far is lecture, so who knows, but it doesn't look too bad.  And because of the way it's set up, they cancel class for the whole week every time there's a holiday on Monday.  Definitely not complaining about that!

Physics 220: electricity and magnetism.  Judging by the way my first homework assignment turned out, I will be spending a lot of time either visiting Paul, or visiting the TA lab.  Sigh.  At least my teacher's pretty nice.

Organ 116: second semester of organ.  While I will be doing a lot of practicing (4 hrs a week is required), I think this class will be very good for me.  Already it's helped me remember things I learned in 115, and I put some in practice today during church and got complimented on it.  So hopefully that trend will continue.

English 202: some literature class that I have to take for a GE.  It shouldn't be too bad, but Friday she turned off the lights and started talking about art and I was dozing off within 2 minutes.  I really hope she just sticks to literature.  I can deal with Hamlet a lot better than art.

There you have it.  It's actually a really light load this semester.  If I drop dance I only have 13 credits, but I don't know what else to take... and I'm only working 13 hours a week.  Oh well.  Hopefully I'll get it figured out.  I definitely wouldn't mind having spare time... it was glorious being not very busy this last week; I read about 5 books just for fun!  (And didn't clean the apartment.  But whatever.)
