I got up at 6:30 this morning (I really wonder how long this getting up early thing is going to last) and got myself to campus earlier than I needed to be, but later than I intended, to watch the movie I needed to view for International Film Music. It was a Hitchcock film called The 39 Steps. I HIGHLY recommend this movie, for it was all kinds of awesome. I'm going to watch it again tomorrow to pay more attention to the purpose of the music, for it was very sparingly used. Hopefully all the movies will be good like this. It'll make the class THAT much easier.
After the movie I managed to find the building in which I picked up my practice room keys, so now I can practice on campus whenever I feel like it. ^^v Then I had lunch and went to orchestra, where we read all of Tchaik 4. The first movement was something of a disaster, and the firsts got lost in the second movement and I should've known better to keep playing but I didn't and then I got lost >_< Doesn't help I'm last chair, can't hear anything, and have a stand partner who doesn't count. GRAH I severely dislike this no audition for orchestra policy. ::glare:: Hopefully the conductor next year will do auditions (and will be Lanz). My stand partner also told me I look so serious when I play and it scared her. Heh heh heh.
I pretty much begged the conductor to let me be in the pit of Candide in April. I even resorted to the "I play viola, too" line. ::gasp:: Sad that I've been getting more gigs for viola than for violin, but violinists really are a dime a dozen. And apparently nearly all the violists in orchestra are doing recitals this semester and don't want to play, which is good for me. ^^v
I practiced for a bit after orchestra and realized that I've forgotten how to hold my bow the way Laura showed me, which would be why my sound is so crappy recently. Now I've gotta go back and fix that before I am content with my sound. I need to put new strings on my 'lin, and I should try and get a new bow as soon as possible, since that will help with the sound. A new case would be a good thing, but if I get a bow I won't be able to afford the case. Hmm, I should check the Musafia discount cases page, see if they've got anything interesting there that I can afford.
Tomorrow I'll get my course number to register for private lessons. I called my teacher and left a message for her, and she called me back to assign me a time. Looks like my lessons are going to be 9:30 am on Thursdays. GAH!!!! SO EARLY!!! This means I should leave my house no later than 8:45, and I'll have to warm up beforehand. This also puts a wrench into my workout plans, since I can't humanly workout, shower, dress, eat breakfast, and warm up in the hours of 6:30-8:45. Well, I have a week to figure it out. Maybe I can do that. Or maybe I should workout Friday afternoons, after orchestra and before CYOSC. Hmm, this requires some thought.
Well, I bought my textbook for Organology, so I should probably start on the readings for next week. I'm going to try REALLY hard to fit everything in without overloading myself and procrastinating. Looks like I won't be trying to fit in Japanese, due to sheer lack of time. ::sigh:: Next semester.
Tomorrow I'll go to campus in the afternoon and watch The 39 Steps once more, then I have Seminar Music Analysis at 4. The teacher said if I need any extra help he'll work with me on things, so that should all be okay. I'll show them for thinking I can't handle a grad level music theory course. ::evil laughter::
Alrighty, I need food and to at least start reading for Organology. Nighters, all!
