Why is it that I always have about a year's time between my posts? That makes me feel like crud. I pick it up, sit it down, then start over again. *points to self* Loser!
Well, I may be writing this from the bathroom... Yesterday I ate some expired eggs... Wasn't that dumb of me? So we'll see how long it takes for me to take off running. From now on, I won't assume that I just bought them last week, because I apparently didn't.
Back in April of this year, my mom told me that I had until the end of August to get out of the house. I won't go into the details because I'll get really pissed off and have to go take a pill or something. Let's just say, my mom and stepdad always want to lie about me and make me out to be a bad person. A month before, Rob and I both quit Martin's, as we were hired to do data entry at Merkle. Together we make about $2,000/mo, but that's only just enough for the cost of living these days. Between rent, phone, cable, internet, electric, and those other bills that I can't remember, it's a little stupid. So, September 15th, we moved into our own little apartment with our turtle, 3 hermit crabs, and 2 fish.
A lot of little things have happened since then...
Pets
Last August, on the 27th, we went to the fair and brought home a red-earred slider. He was just a baby, I'm guessing about 10 days at the most old. I upgraded the hermit crabs to a 20gal and gave Skippy the 10gal, since he was maybe 2" long at the time. For Christmas, I got him a 20gal, since he grew so fast. Some people's sliders don't very big somehow. I don't know why Skippy's so big then! He's the normal male turtle size for his breed. *shrug* Mike and Christi, 2 goldfish bought when Skippy was just a baby to help clean up the extra food and stuff, were put in a separate, 2.5gal tank on my desk. Skippy's claws were catching thier fins when everyone got the dinner time excitement. Now, Skippy's scrunched in the same tank, but we're looking at nice tanks for him to fill his turtley needs. We're also deciding where to put the tank in the apartment. Poor little guy... Anyway, he's a very smart turtle and I couldn't ask for a better little guy. I'll probably have to put him in my will, as his life span is 70+ years. I have plans for whenever we're in a house (we're currently working on a special project or two that will bring in extra money) so he'll have his own "indoor pond" of sorts. I'm going to love Skippy's room!!!
We put the fish, Christi and Mike, in a bigger, 10gal tank. Then, we brought in 2 little friends for them - a black moor named Blooky, and a calico teliscope named Bloop. Bloop died a week later, but we weren't sure why. We figured it was a fluke. Rob got me 2 fish then--a shubunkin named Pumpkin and a ruikin(sp?) named Pandora. Mike started getting sickly looking, and we found out the amonia had shot up really high in the tank. We were buying all kinds of medicine for the tank and could not get the level down. Mike finally died, causing Christi, who had been with him for a year through thick and thin, to be depressed and finally getting sick herself. Somehow, a miricle occured, and the ammonia dropped to a safe level. Christi started getting better, and with the other fish there to cheer her up, she finally perked up. We later got an algae eater named Sweet Pea. Blookie has something weird on his right eye right now. It's this red spot, actually in his eye that we can't find any information about. He doesn't look sick, so maybe he just hit it on something. I hope he's okay. I've wanted to get a black moor and name it Blookie for years!
Misty, a friend of ours from work, had 2 fire-bellied toads that were* in her son's room for 5 years, but they couldn't take care of them anymore. I named them Iris, after the goddess of the rainbow, and Daphne, after a nymph turned into a laurel tree. They look so pretty in their tank with their bright colors, and all.
Two weeks ago, Bianca and Adrian, two of my hermit crabs, died together on the same day. We're not sure of the cause, but it must have just been the main tank because Lucky, who is in her handicapped tank, is perfectly fine. Bianca had just come out of a molt and wasn't acting right, so I kind of expected her to not make it. Adrian was a total surprise. He acted like he was going to molt, but never did, then died. Lucky is in a handicapped tank, because she had a problem with her molting and came out missing both claws. This prevents her from protecting herself and from eating and drinking properly. So, I put her in her own 2.5gal tank where she can be happy with ramped bowls for her food and water. I even made her a special food mix with extra calcium to keep her strong, and any hard bits of food she had--I crushed them into a powder so she can just eat it as it is. I've had her for 3 years and she's been through a lot, living up to her name. She's going strong!
We got a hamster to bring some fur into the house so I wouldn't go into convulsion. I need furballs in my life and 2 months without was too much. We named her Mitzi. She's a white Teddy Bear hamster with brownish grey ears. She gets excited when we're cooking and, if out at the time, will stand in the kitchen by your feet and most likely will fall asleep watching you cook. She's a sweetheart, but has too much energy for her own good!
We're hoping to get a Yorkie puppy and a kitty sometime. I'd love to have the Yorkie so I can take it for walks and get me motivated to do things! Plus, I would love to take it to the MS Walk with me. I love seeing people with their dogs at the walk. It's too cute. I wish Santa would bring me a little girl puppy! :( Oh well...
*At this point in the toad paragraph, I almost had a moment! Back in 6th grade, I was doing definitions for my science class homework and wrote that the definition for Solar System was "stars and planets that revolve into beaver hating maniacs." Reason being? I saw the word "revolve" and thought about the episode of the Angry Beavers when Daggit confused "revolve" with "evolve" and that was that. I wrote part of his line from the episode. So, at this point in the toad paragraph, I started to write "2 fire-bellied toads that were turned into trees" because I was getting ahead of myself thinking about Daphne's name. Where's my sign?
People
My grandmother just got the internet! I can't believe it! She always said she wouldn't, then she did. It's a miricle.
And old friend of mine, Mackenzie, sent me a text yesterday. It was so good to hear from her! I remember when she was born. It's hard to belive she's 12 now! I've seen some pictures and she is so pretty and I'm jealous. Of course I'm jealous of everyone. When you have rosacea, you kind of feel like the ugliest person in the world, even though Rob thinks I'm pretty. Anyway, I have her on MySpace now, so I can keep up with her! I still can't believe it's her!
Sarah Farmer, who lived 2 floors below us and who we used to work with at Martin's, has moved out! We actually know someone here, and she leaves. But her and her girlfriend Gill needed more room for their huge animal family. They had 4 dogs! So now they have a big house with a fenced yard... and another dog and a cat. LOL Good luck to them, and I can't wait to see their place and all of their babies! Since they were moving, they gave us the washer and dryer from the apartment. It was a major help and I'm so grateful to them for it because we couldn't afford to do the laundry downstairs and we didn't have time anyway! We're hooked up as of yesterday, and I no longer have to do undies in the tub!!!! How long has it been since we had clean clothes? Too long... I'm anxiously waiting to wear my Legend of Zelda shirts and warm fluffy sweaters again. I feel like a slob going into work wearing things that don't really fit because I don't have anything else clean to wear. :( I'm not a hobo, I swear!
Life
Because of all of this, it looks like I'm not having Chrismas this year. I'm going to have to tell people that I'm sorry I can't afford gifts and that wouldn't feel right receiving any either. We have the tree up... maybe I'll just put some empty boxes under it to look good...
