For everything I like about Southwest airlines, they were really unprepared for the holiday ruch today and I paid the price for their lack of foresight.
I missed my flight.
After walking around in a line to check my bags for 40 minutes, the people I was following actually FOUND the line. One SW person was missing from the chain of right turns we had to make. So we actually walked right back to the ticket counter we started at. I was just like... WHAT?!?!?
So when we finally found the line, the guy in front of me missed his flight before he made it to the ticket counter. The last call for my flight was made when I got to the front of baggage check line. Niiice.
The cab ride home was interesting. Coming from Midway, we took 55 to 90. I was talking to the driver and he accidentally got off the expressway and out to downtown, the "loop." Then we took Lake Shore Drive up, missed the exit again and turned around. He gave me a really good flat rate, and he sang me some songs he wrote. I remember the one about Vanessa Williams really well... but I won't post the lyrics, lest they be stolen.
I went home and went to sleep. I'm missing out on a lot due to the lack of non-standby flights to Fort Lauderdale today. Tomorrow there are a few flights I could take, but I honestly don't know if I can take being at the airport like that again in less than 24 hours. I am missing Mike. I am missing hanging out with his brother and family. I'm missing Lewis Black. It is really disappointing.
I hate to admit it, but I cried out of frustration. My body hurts from carrying my luggage back and forth for 40 odd minutes. Thankfully a security guard helped me put my bags in a wheel chair. My arms ans shoulders still hurt and surprisingly my back is not in pain.
Now that I have two more days, I am having dinner with my mom and Dan tonight. Afterward Ryan, Becky, Beth and I are going to hang out. The old gang, the light warriors. It will be awesome because I would have missed them otherwise.
New years will be spent with my dad, Mary and Mike. I think it will be a lot of fun.
Until then... I'll be in Chicago for two more days.
