LIFE: A young woman's triumphant emotional journey in a short wet skirt in the girl's bathroom.

LIFE

Because if you think your life sucks, try being a Japanese schoolgirl.

Bullying, blackmail, suicide attempts, vicious cliques, social ostracism, crafty manipulation, psycho boyfriends, and more abuse and girl-on-girl violence than you can shake a stick at. LIFE isn't just bitchy, it's brutal. If the queen bee doesn't like you, she'll lock you in a warehouse and set it on fire.

Best of all? There's exactly one male character in the entire show who isn't evil or morally ambivalent. It's all girlslash, all the time!

Our heroine, Ayumu, is a ray of sunshine wrapped in rainbows and puppies.

This makes her prime real estate for the evil, manipulative Manami, who digs her claws in Ayu's trusting heart by feeding her and touching her face and promising they're best! friends! forever!

As long as Ayumu obeys orders...

Because Manami rules the roost with an iron fist and cellphone charms.

This is Manami's boyfriend!

His father loves him very much --

-- which makes him a very kind, affectionate person.

Manami doesn't like the way her boyfriend starts eyeballing Ayumu (not realizing it's less "love" and more "Anthony Perkins in Psycho"), so she strikes back at Ayu for "stealing" him.

Beware a bully who has both needles and access to your eyes. D:

Fleeing Mana's evil stride of fashionable doom (really, it's quite impressive), Ayumu is driven into the arms of Hatori, her beautiful, mysterious classmate who pets her and gives her presents and encourages her to stand up for herself.

There's nothing gay about them at all.

I mean, maybe just slightly -- just a little -- really rather unnoticeable -- gay gay gay gay.

With Hatori's support, Ayumu grows a pair and stops taking shit. It's fucking awesome. Evil Manami is determined to crush the souls of everyone around her, so Ayumu starts backtalking and flinging her against walls.

Feisty schoolgirl action!

Fire!

The skirts here are insane. They're like tiny pieces of tissue paper fluttering in the breeze.

Maya Miki the MILF!!! Oh yes.

If you're still not sold on the gay, think about the symbolism of a mop-wielding lesbian*. It's my not-so-secret theory that this drama is one big metaphor for sexual revolution.

*Not canon gay, but come on.

I might have been too vague about the femslash... hmm...

Manami is the best villain ever. It's like Lindsay Lohan on steroids. She goes from clique queen to merciless puppetmaster, blackmailing her teachers, plotting kidnap and arson, igniting civil war in her cronies. Her intimidation is sugar-sweet and puts people in wheelchairs. Her prey trembles in fear... when she corners them in the girl's bathroom. You'll be mesmerized by the sheer unrelenting psychological abuse this girl inflicts on her victims.

She also has an impressive array of smirks, which Ayumu counters with eyes of determination:

Basically? Don't fuck with tiny Japanese schoolgirls. The pink bows compliment the evil.
