Tonight Jenni and I have tickets to see a live version of Cinematic Titanic, which is the movie-mocking project from the original cast of Mystery Science Theater 3000 (a.k.a. MST3K), which is probably my favorite show of all time, and one with which I have many, many fond memories...Jenni and I watched it when we were dating and have continued to watch some version of it all through our marriage. In my Quiver days, I wrote a movie review column showcasing particularly bad films, inspired largely by MST3K. So, the concept has been a big part of my life for the past 15-20 years. So, as you might imagine, I'm pretty psyched at the prospect of seeing Trace Beaulieu (Crow T. Robot and Dr. Forrester), J. Elvis Weinstein (the original Tom Servo), Frank Conniff (TV's Frank), Mary Jo Pehl (Mrs. Forrester), and Joel Hodgson (Joel Robinson).
However, I'm doubly nervous now that we actually know Mary Jo in real life, because she might introduce us to the rest of the cast tonight. Assuming I don't pass out or run away, I would like to be able to suggest some things to do or sites to take in while they are here in Austin. I thought of directing them to Vulcan Video and I Luv Video to check out the rare titles they have, or maybe telling them to get tickets for Esther's Follies. Does anyone have other suggestions, particular for something to see/do on Sunday or late Saturday?
