The hair on my arms were standing up during the medal ceremony tonight for Alexandre Bilodeau. Just to see that crowd of red and white and everyone singing to the national anthem - AMAZING.
Tonight was oh so stressful. Because speed skating was pushed back due to zamboni issues, I was switching back and forth between that, the pairs long program and the medal ceremony. Too many events live at once!
Oh man, pairs was such a splat-fest tonight until Qing Pang & Jian Tong came out. They did such a great long, but I wanted Xue Shen & Hongbo Zhao to win gold and they sealed the deal (minus the wonky dismount on one of their lifts.) They definitely deserve that gold medal. Not the skate I wanted for Anabelle Langlois & Cody Hay or Jessica Dube & Bryce Davidson, but being top ten at the Olympics is something to be proud of so don't let the media tell you otherwise.
Jamie Sale & David Pelletier, I love you guys (did anyone catch the cute fluff piece they did trying to be speed skaters?) but you need to brush up on your commentating skills and stop taking about yourselves and your experience. Replace them and Rod Black with Tracy Wilson and usual commentating gang plz.
Note to self: keep an eye out on the Russian pair Vera Bazarova & Yuri Larionov. They're such soft, elegant skaters and have the potential to explode in the future.
