Fifty, sixty years ago, blacks were where we gays are now. They fought for many of the same rights we now struggle for. The right to love who you want, and to be able to marry them, the right to simply LIVE ( Read more... )

*hugs* Anyone who refuses to treat another person as a person for whatever reason is hugely misguided. And it's a sad fact that the world is full of many misguided people, but working together we can change that -- even if it's one person at a time. :)

*hugs* Thanks hon. I'm not quite as emotional now as I was. Writing this helped a lot; getting sleep helped more (I'd been up like 23 hours when I wrote it).

But I'm still mad. ANd I still mean every word. I don't relish the role of activist but... I can't sit down and shut my mouth and let others fight for me anymore. I just can't.

I just read an article earlier today (er....yesterday) that said a 2011 Gallup poll showed over half of Americans approve of gay marriage for the first time this year (53%!), so we are making progress! :)

Linky, linky!

Sadly, americans don't make the laws. Legislators who don't always do what they're supposed to (represent the will of the people) do.

A state Senator I'd alwas liked voted against NYS's gay marriage bill last time it came around. I called the office to see why.

Aide to Sen: She has always believed marriage is between a man and a woman.

... that's not how you do your JOB. YOUR beliefs don't come into play as a legislator.

Not if you're a good one.

I always cite this: LBJ signed the civil rights act of 64. HE WAS A RACIST. He didn't do it bc he liked blacks, nor b/c the puclic was pressuring him to (they weren't--well most weren't). He did it b/c it was right.

(Can you tell i'm very anti legislature atm? =\ )

Integrity is hard to come by in the sorts of people who run for office and succeed in getting elected anymore. :(
