Fifty, sixty years ago, blacks were where we gays are now. They fought for many of the same rights we now struggle for. The right to love who you want, and to be able to marry them, the right to simply LIVE.
Gay is the new black. 50 years later, I am saying, HELL NO I WILL NOT SIT IN THE BACK OF THE BUS! I am going to stand up, loud and proud. I am going to shout! And when you try to keep me from my rights, I'm going to fight. I am going to get mad as hell, I am going to kick, and scream, and fight tooth and nail. And one day... some beautiful day, I am going to stand tall, and proud, with tears streaming down my face, and kiss my new husband. And you know what will happen? Nothing. The world will keep turning. Marriage will continue as it has. Your life will be unaffected. Mine... mine will be profoundly affected. Because I know. I know what it's like to have to fight just to be able to call him my husband. You take the word for granted. I never will.
My name is Patrick Farley. I am 32 years old, a university student, studying Psychology and Spanish, with minors in Criminal Justice and French. My ONLY goal in life, is to help people. Even those of you who would spit on me if you saw me in person. I am a son, a brother, a friend, a nephew, and I AM A HUMAN.
I am a PERSON. And I WILL be treated as one.
