One spoon or two?
And while I'm on a roll...
Last week I was making some tea at work. I asked our new agency worker, Jan, if she'd like one. 'Ooh, yes, coffee please, strong and with a little bit of milk?' I picked up her cup and as I went to the kitchen (not, I'm sure, that I have a reputation for liking weak milky drinks or anything) she said 'Could I have a big spoon in it please?'
So I made the drinks, made Jan a strong cup of coffee, and put a small amount of milk in. Just as I went to carry it back, I thought 'hmm...what was it she said as I left the room..?'
And then I remembered. 'Put a big spoon in it.' I thought that was an odd request to start with, but dutifully I got a dessert spoon and stuck it in the mug.
It was only when I got half way down the corridor that I realised she'd meant a big spoon of coffee...
