Que?

By LilyChan

It had been a couple of weeks since Jin’s dramatic return from the States. Rumors circulated among the fans and the Johnny building that the rest of KAT-TUN was going to break up because Jin wasn’t there to band the, well, band together. In truth, they were doing fine as they were - doing separate projects now that KAT-TUN weren’t in as high demand as they would’ve been had Jin stayed. However, they didn’t complain much. They welcomed back their member with open arms.

That’s what the fans thought, at least. Alas, all good things had to come to an end. Jin and Kame were back to fighting each other about stupid things and Nakamaru had to stop them, just like before. Koki, Tatsuya, and Taguchi minded their own businesses and tried not to cause any more awkward friction between each other and the two most popular members.

But that plan was moot as soon as Kame told Koki to wake Jin up.

“Why don’t you do it yourself?” Koki asked as he placed a fresh cigarette in his mouth and lit it.

Kame sighed and crossed his arms. “Because. He’s been acting really strange.”

”And you’re not?”

“Good point, but either way, we’re needed for the new Potato photoshoot. I’m going to go ahead and go to makeup.”

Koki sighed and waved his hand. “Fine, I’ll wake up Sleeping Beauty. Go, go! We’ll meet you there!”

Kame nodded and thanked him silently as he took his leave. Koki sighed with little annoyance but he got up anyway and headed towards where Jin slept. The door was slightly ajar so Koki went inside.

As expected, Jin was sleeping on a little cot that was set up for those late night recordings, rehearsals, and what have you, and Koki put out his cigarette on the ashtray that was conveniently nearby him. As soon as he was sure the cigarette stick was out, he rubbed his hands against the back of his pants and walked towards the sleeping man. He tapped him and called out his name.

“Hey Jin. Wake up. You’re needed. Don’t tell me you’re still trying to get used to the time zones!” Koki said as he kept tapping him. When it didn’t seem to be working, Koki instead placed his foot on top of Jin and tried to roll him out of the cot. He was able to push him off only to hear a groaning and whining Jin.

“Koki, why did you do that?” Jin groaned sleepily.

“We need to go to makeup. It’s time for you to make your debut again.” He had a cocky smile on his face and pointed behind him to emphasize it.

“Que?” Jin responded tiredly and off-handily.

“What?” Koki asked, surprised at the random word.

”What?” Jin asked again, only in English.

Koki paused for it to register. Then he asked again, “What? What did you just say?”

It took Jin a moment or two when he realized what he said then he started to laugh. “Oh. I just said ‘what’ in Spanish. You know, your native language.”

Koki gave him a curious look that made Jin regret those words. The singer rubbed his eyes as a way to find time to think of the right words to explain.

“Um. I mean, there were people in America who looked just like you, Koki! I asked my tutor when we saw a bunch of them together and they were talking in an accent unknown to me! She said that they were Mexicans and they spoke Spanish. I actually hung out with them for a few hours and they taught me some words. And since you kind of looked like those people in America, I just assumed…” Jin trailed off and hoped his bandmate wasn’t insulted by the offhand comment.

Koki took this all in and merely laughed. “Ah, so it seems. But I’m not. I’m full-blooded Japanese male. Maybe you can teach me some English instead of Spanish though?”

Jin smiled, relieved, and he nodded. “Yeah! Okay. Here’s your first lesson! I heard this a lot from a bunch of girls who were at the clubs - I mean, restaurants I went to: ‘I hate your ass’.”

Koki and Jin spent so much time learning the proper way to say “I hate your ass”, the two forgot about the Potato photoshoot. Nakamaru had to get them in order for their managers not to be so angry with them.
