Fan Service Too Far

By LilyChan

Kim Ryeowook knew it was just fan service. It was something to get teenaged girls to buy more albums, to buy more concert tickets, to even pay attention to them. He had done it before with the other members of Super Junior long before Henry Lau arrived and he will keep doing it long after.

He knew one day Henry would get a girlfriend. He knew it in his gut - someone as wonderful as Henry wouldn’t stay single long. There was also the fact Henry’s straight. At first, it was noticeable he was uncomfortable with the fact he had to perform fan service for the sake of music. Ryeowook couldn’t blame him; after all, he was in the same position not too long ago.

As time progressed, Henry got more and more comfortable. Ryeowook also got used to the nickname, dubbed mostly by Henry’s fans, “Henry’s bodyguard”. It was true - Ryeowook was a bit over-protective of Henry around Donghae or anyone else for that matter. He couldn’t help it. Ever since the fiasco back in the summer, Ryeowook couldn’t trust any of the fans.

When the other band members got more comfortable around Henry, Ryeowook had to admit - he was jealous. He wanted to tear Henry away from everyone else and just keep him to himself.

The singer then realized perhaps this wasn’t normal behavior. Henry was all he thought about. The violinist was the first thing that popped into his heads in the morning. Henry was all he ever dreamt about.

While Ryeowook didn’t want come out, he fantasized about Henry. He always kept that particular bit to himself. He didn’t want to make his bandmates uncomfortable around him, especially his precious Henry. If anything, Ryeowook ached to be around Henry for whatever reason. He would make up excuses to be with him and to see him smile.

Ryeowook knew this sort of love was forbidden. He knew it could only lead to trouble; not only for Henry, but for himself and Super Junior. There were enough scandals for the large boy band and they certainly didn’t need anymore.

The only thing Ryeowook could let Henry know how he felt was to depend on fan service. He could only continue being his friend in Super Junior-M for as long as the band continued to sing, perform, and dance together.

He didn’t care if he took the fan service a bit too far. Ryeowook was in love with Henry and he couldn’t let it out any other way.

“Ryeowook,” Henry said one day, “are you gay for me or something?”

Ryeowook, shocked, gave him a confused look. “What makes you say that?” He didn’t mean for his voice to sound so nervous, as though he was caught in the act.

Henry merely shrugged and laughed. “It’s not a big deal or anything. I’m just curious. You just act weirder around me, that’s all.”

The other gave him a laugh, even though it sounded incredibly forced.

“Oh, no. I’m gay for you. Actually, I’m not gay period,” Ryeowook said. He couldn’t look at Henry in the eyes, though. Henry seemed to accept it and shrugged again.

Ryeowook knew he was dangerously close. He knew he had to be careful, but he just couldn’t help it.

I shouldn’t take fan service too seriously..
