After a few weeks of adjusting and stressing out over fooling everyone she interacted with that she's a male, Lu Hua finally found her place in school and in the club. She sparred with Kris every day at practice, sometimes with Joonmyun, and talked to the other members. She grew particularly close with Yixing and Zitao who were conveniently in her class, and she would like to say that she became somewhat close to her roommate.
As she headed to the fencing room one day, she reflected on her last bout with Ren. How he beat her. How he humiliated her. How he mocked her and told her she would never beat him. She let out a sigh and shook her head.
During the few weeks of being at EXO High, she felt that she improved a little bit since she last saw that asshole. She understood that improvement was slow, but fencing with Kris has helped her get closer to her goal, even by a little. She has won a couple of bouts against Kris and she definitely knew that Kris could beat Ren.
Lu Hua entered the fencing practice room and saw Kai and Jongdae engaging in a sabre bout.
"What the fuck was that?" Chanyeol scolded Kai and made an exaggerated arm swinging motion. "You know better. Point goes to Jongdae."
Zitao approached Lu Hua and whispered to her, "It looks like they're running at each other with swords."
"That's how sabre works," Lu Hua shrugged. She set her bag down and unzipped her bag.
"Hey," Zitao called to her, "do you think it'd be okay to try out epee today? I'm not a fan of foil's small target area."
"Don't ask me, ask Kris," Lu Hua answered him. "But know that point control is important in epee, too."
"But epee has no rules." Lu Hua couldn't argue with that. She brushed him off and started suiting up. In the background, she could hear the clash of weapons and Tao asking Kris about epee. Noticing she had no fencing partner, she decided to stab the wall. As she was about to pull her epee out of her bag, a voice startled her.
"Excuse me." Lu Hua turned around. Sehun was looking down at her with an epee in his hand. "Do you want to fence?" Lu Hua hadn't fenced Sehun before, so she nodded in agreement.
They hook up to an open strip and get en guard. Lu Hua advanced forward, careful to watch her distance. Just as she was about to lunge, the scoring machine had gone off on Sehun's side. Confused, it took her a while to process that Sehun had gotten a point on her hand without her noticing.
One of those cases.
She recalled her technique for avoiding wrist flicks and faced Sehun for another round. Sehun tried for the wrist again and she managed to avoid his attack while making a counterattack on her part. The scoring machine went off on her side.
"That was careless of me," Sehun calmly said. "I guess I'll have to up my game."
Lu Hua lost to Sehun 2-5.
"You're not bad," Sehun told her. "Try being more aggressive." Lu Hua shook his hand and unhooked from the strip.
Kris came up to her a moment later. "You actually got two points against Sehun. I'm impressed."
Lu Hua smiled weakly. "Yeah, I need to get better." Kris wrapped an arm around her shoulder and squeezed it lightly. She felt her face heat up. Why does he have to be so hot?
"It's impressive enough. I've only beaten him twice and that was by luck," Kris told her. Lu Hua's eyes widened. Kris was skill enough as a fencer. It was shocking to hear him get beaten.
I have a lot to learn.

The next day Lu Hua is sitting at her desk when a girl she has never seen or met approaches her.
"Lu Han oppa," she said. Lu Hua looked up and noticed the girl was holding a nicely decorated letter. This could only mean one thing. "Could you read my letter?"
'This is really weird,' Lu Hua thought to herself. She remembered back in her middle school days her friends giving letters to boys they found cute. Lu Hua herself never partook in that because fencing took up a majority of her life. Ren was also pretty cute and he understood fencing. Lu Hua cringed at that thought.
Lu Hua studied the girl's face. She seemed pretty cute from a straight girl perspective. She could see a nice guy dating her, emphasis on guy. Lu Hua herself was more into tall, hot blondes with six packs and scorpion tattoos.
"Sure," Lu Hua answered her. She grabbed the letter from the girl's hand and the girl clapped happily.
"Thanks, oppa!" she beamed cheerily. She ran off to her group of friends. Lu Hua opened the letter.
In girly handwriting, it read: I like you, please go out with me. I'll be waiting on the rooftop during lunch today.
"Oooh! Someone got a letter," Zitao chimed from behind her. "Are you interested in her?"
"No," Lu Hua shrugged. "But I should at least reject her properly."

At lunchtime Lu Hua climbed the stairs to meet the girl who gave her the letter. She spotted her standing near the chain link fence. What she didn't notice was Kris hiding behind the air vent with a juice box.
"Lu Han oppa, you're here!" the girl exclaimed. She ran up and hugged her.
"Yeah, I need to tell you something," Lu Hua nervously said, prying the girl off of her. "You see, I can't reciprocate your feelings. I'm sorry." She bowed slightly.
"Why?"
Because I've never talked to you before today. "I don't really know you that well, so I can't say I like you in that way," she decided to reply politely.
"We can be friends."
"That's not going to change anything. I'm legitimately not interested in you."
"Why?" I just told you why!
"I'm gay," is what actually left Lu Hua's mouth.
"What? No way! You're lying," the girl sneered.
'Yeah, I know. What the fuck, Lu Hua?!' "I like men," Lu Hua emphasized. 'Not lying there.' "I can't be with you because you're not my type. Sorry." The girl huffed and ran off.
Lu Hua let out a sigh of relief.
"I didn't know you were gay," Kris suddenly popped out of nowhere making Lu Hua jump in surprise. He took a casual sip from his juice box.
"Holy shit, you scared me," Lu Hua said.
"It's cool, man. I don't judge," Kris continued. "I don't care for your preferences as long as I don't get dragged into anything." He casually walked off leaving Lu Hua in a daze.
