Well, it's after noon and I have to work tonight. This shall be brief, I hope.

First, a friend on Facebook shared this link http://www.lileks.com/institute/motel/index.html Great God Almighty! AVERT YOUR EYES! Or, if you like to crane your neck at car crashes and train wrecks, have a look-see! That is a link to the (in)famous Hartwig Gobbler Restaurant, Hotel and mistake of epic proportions in architecture and interior design. Sadly, it is no more... I would love to have seen the rotating bar and the shag carpeting slowly growing up the walls. On a side note, I think it needs a jungle room. Really. Also, if the band the Cramps ever knew about this place, it would have been either in one of their videos or they would have owned it. I can SO see Lux Interior lounging around on any of the waterbeds, with his headphones on listening to an 8-track tape of lounge lizard hits.

Second, the comic strip is up. It is the beginning of a probably long running gag of science flops. Also, you get to see TWO - count 'em - TWO hairless furries and Trey's tattoo.

Third, here's the Tree of Life linoleum block carving and print.

The linoleum block carving (at right) and the print from it (left) that I carved this weekend. I used regular battleship linoleum and Speedball cutters/gougers. The design is my own and based on the "Tree of Life" myth that is featured in so many worldwide religions and legends. The awesome part of this design as it can be used in either direction as the roots and limbs were done similarly. The basis for that is the Celtic proverb/saying, "As above, so below; As within, so without". The texture on the caps of the acorns looks really cool if you enlarge the picture. The forever knots in the corners look like crap but this was my first experience doing knots.

printing, art fumes, linoleum block, travel, artsy fartsy, vacation
