Weird night. First off, the boss left a note on the message board that Squidward WILL BE IN. (She did come in, too. Surprised the carp out of me!) We were extremely slow for the first half of the night. I got to do maintenance on all but one machine before 0300. Then the shit storm hit. Had four blood cultures come up positive (on a living person this time) and had to do a type and screen on a patient who wound up having an antibody. Dammit. So, I spent most of the rest of the day in micro or blood bank. I'm not sure what the antibody is for that patient. She had been transfused in August and earlier this month... and this is a new development. Anyway, it was interesting and not a OMGWTFBBQAmIgonnaDo?! kind of night. I called the blood bank supervisor and she talked me through the antibody procedure a bit. At least the patient was stable at around an 8/24 H and H. (That's low... but not panic stage yet.) As I type this, The Great Wise One has probably has already gotten two units of blood ready and the nurses are transfusing one.

Ah yes. For the quote collectors, I have a new one for you. I found it in hematology. Evidently, the Great Wise One printed it off and left it there. It sounds so much like her....

"Never be in a hurry; do everything quietly and in a calm spirit. Do not lose your inner peace for anything whatsoever even if your whole world seems upset." ~ St. Francis de Sales.

I found that at the beginning of my shift. I wrote it on a piece of scrap paper and carried it around all night. It gave me solace. :) I was able to do that, too; work with purpose, not frustration. :D

I also came up with the idea to have a feature here on my journal. It is a humor feature that you can skip over or read. It's written more for my amusement more than anything. I will make it a separate entry.

Tomorrow, I probably won't be online - at least not until late in the evening. I'm going out with Catarzyna to celebrate our birthdays. WHOO HOO! Yeah, two old ladies heading out for a wild night at 1130 in the morning to knock over a Build-A-Bear Workshop, a Joann Fabrics and the PA Fabric Outlet! :D

quotes, work
