Captain Osaka is a prince among men. On a related note,
GUESS WHO WAS THE PRETTIEST GIRL AT THE PROM LAST WEEKEND.
(I was not actually the prettiest girl at the prom.)
That picture (and a few others) were taken by a girl at one of the tables in the Artists' Alley! Her name was Shannon, and
this would be her DA. The other girl at the table was named Sandy, and she was dressed as stewardess Yoko from the 'S.t.a.r.S.' PV! O: I nerded out over GL and Double K with them for a while -- they were really friendly and really nice, and were very amused by my costume. I love that it made so many people laugh, and heard "ARE YOU DOUBLE K SIMON?!" surprisingly frequently. I wasn't really expecting to be recognized much at all. At FanExpo, after all, even GL cosplayers were looking at me a little blankly.
I think my favourite part of that picture is how awkwardly I'm holding my (orange-tipped, plastic, dollar-store, therefore super cool) gun, like I'm not entirely sure what one does with a gun. I really need a better coat for that costume, though. It does the job, and I guess it isn't TOO bad for the first garment I'd ever made out of stretch vinyl and without much in the way of a pattern, but it's hardly great either. The collar is an idiotic shape and collapses all the time. I've got a proper coat pattern now, so I'll be remaking that coat soon.
Youmacon was fun! I was exhausted after it, but I'm recovering. The Renaissance Centre is HUGE, and the high heels didn't help things, though at least I was smart enough to carry a more comfortable pair of shoes. But I had a great time! On Friday night, I had dinner at the hotel restaurant with Patrick Seitz, Christopher Robin Miller and a bunch of fellow con-goers, during which said guests cemented their places as a couple of my favourite people ever -- anyone who's reading this, if you ever have the opportunity to talk to either of them, go for it!
I didn't finish that 'surprise costume' in time, almost needless to say. That made me really sad and regretful for a while, but it turned out to have probably been for the best. The flannel I was going to line it with turned out to be kind of disgusting after a few washes, and even though I'd mostly be changing my skin tone via gloves, tights (ha ha ha...), etc., it'd still be too make-up-intensive to get into quickly enough for all the morning panels. I would do it for D-TAC, but it'll be around Christmas. I'd rather wear something a little... happier?... I actually still have no idea what I'm wearing for that. Parallel Works 2.1 didn't come together for Youmacon either, but I've resolved to do at least two hours of sewing/cosplay work in general every day. Maybe that'll be my costume for D-TAC? I'll probably be getting called 'Kaito' all day, but oh, well.
Before Youmacon by a couple of weeks, there was the High Park photoshoot, organized amazingly by
VickyBunnyAngel. It was a beautiful day, and man, to say that everyone there looked fantastic would be a massive understatement. I am terribly sorry for being the usual awkward dork (in a bad way) while I was there. I felt awful about the way I was behaving, and hell, I still do. There was a lot of stuff on my mind, mostly completely unrelated to the event or to cosplaying at all. I was only shying away -- most of the time, by no means always -- from talking to people so as to not pull them into the little world I was in, but I'm worried I instead gave people the impression that it was more personal than that. That I don't like them, or something. That isn't at all the case. That'd be another thing I've decided to do cosplay-wise, I guess -- to not be so immature and withdrawn when I go to smaller gatherings like that. It isn't to say I didn't have a nice time, but... yeah, just stupid stuff that's all my own fault and my own issues.
On that note, I'm going to get some actual food... -looks at small mountain of candy wrappers and cringes-
