"Tales from Earthsea" is not a bad movie for people who have read Earthsea books. The themes from the books are preserved, the plot points followed. It's definitely much better than Sci-Fi channel Earthsea crap (R3/10... well maybe R1/10).

"Sukiyaki Western Django" - what spaghetti western would look if done by Japanese and Quentin Tarantino. Oh wait, it is a spaghetti western done by Japanese and Quentin Tarantino! :) Wonderful visuals, standard story with a little postmodernism and neat off kilter details thrown in, colorful (pun intended) characters. Two not so hot anime movies.

Maybe I am just getting too much Miyazaki and anime in general this year, but "Kurenai no buta - Porco Rosso" seemed to be yet-another Miyazaki. Nothing special, nothing deep. "Sen to Chihiro no kamikakushi - Spirited Away" R9/10 and "Howl's Moving Castle - Hauru no ugoku shiro" R10/10 seemed such a great movies. ( Read more... )
