laundry is the stuff if evil

I am currently riding the high of not having to go into work tomorrow.

It's like a beautiful beautiful rainbow with sparkly colours and chocolate bars and black Labrador puppies.

... in other non-related news: adjusting to sleep deprivation quite well, thank you.

Actually had a good shift yesterday - I was with the feared Doctor C, the one obstetrician I was warned about repeatedly, but she didn't turn out to be that bad.  I think she just doesn't like residents.  On the whole I mean.

I can kind of see a reason - we're a disjointed group, at the same stage of our training but at different levels of experience and confidence and ability, based on those rotations we have happened to have completed so far.  I think I did good because it was my fourth shift by the time I was with her, so my overall complete incompetence had been somewhat improved, and instead of teaching me from scratch she was able to point out some really helpful advice for improving things.  Mostly repair-work, which - quite frankly - I relish comment on, because I am NOT a surgical resident and really don't know this stuff in my fingers yet.  Plus the whole 'picture how it will look in three dimensions and than work towards that' is really the kind of thing that comes with practice, and I frankly need more of that.

I flatter myself to think I did an okay job assisting at the C-sections we had, and found myself whored out to Gen Surg again for a case, but the timing worked out quite well and I didn't miss any deliveries.  So that was good.

Tomorrow I - ... shoot.  I was supposed to call my cousin here in Miss-me-if-I-saw-you and I forgot.  Crap.  Well, I'll call tomorrow.  Then work Wednesday, and catch a bus (*shudder*) home Thursday, return Sunday and do a Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Sunday shift again.

Ghah.  I thought I was done with the Toronto Bus Terminal.  So many hours!  So many awkward ways of trying to fall asleep on my own luggage.  Never successfully, I might add, for more than a 7 minute period, which is about the time that hated announcement comes on warning you to stay by your luggage in case its seen as a terrorist threat.

But!  It will get me home.  And I honestly don't have any other options.  Trains to northern Ontario are slower than the bus AND more expensive, and the Hubby has the car.

Oh - and I just finished "The Unincorporated Man" by Dani and Eytan (cool name, eh?) Kollin today.  REALLY enjoyed it.  Didn't think it would need a sequel, but then they threw in some curve balls (the avatars? didn't see that coming!) and now I'm looking forward to it.  I've just started the third Green Rider book (after recently re-reading the first two, and enjoying them more the second time around).  Plus I hear there's a new Matthew Swift book out, and "Death Game" by Jo Graham is out next week.  Really looking forward to that.  Have yet to purchase or read any SGA novels, but this apparently links to "Homecoming" and the rest of the "season six" novels that are going to be released, and I LOVE Jo Graham ("Black Ships" took my heart and never gave it back) so I'm really looking forward to it.

good book glow, mad ramblings, pgy why? : resident tears of woe
