I have just finished - and supremely enjoyed - A Madness of Angels (or: the resurrection of Matthew Swift) by Kate Griffin.
It was an extremely enjoyable story.
On
her site she lists Roger Z. as a favourite writer, and I can see the influence.
I won't spoil much here - but I have to say that its been a while since a fantasy book put so much love of life into its pages, in the most unusual way. I loved the pigeons and the rats and the Beggar King and the Bag Lady and now I'll never give a dollar in the same way again or listen to the phone line hum and hum and hum ...
Beautiful. Startlingly, wonderful, shocking, and unappologetically gorgeous. I loved Matthew Swift.
