Bored.  I like Books!

Sarah's List of Awesome Books (right now)

Jim Butcher's Dresden Files: John made me read them.  Why didn't he talk me into reading them sooner??  I've read the first one and about half of the second, and I love them.  It's about a wizard that lives in modern day Chicago, and he tries to make a living finding lost items (like car keys), making potions, and being a consultant for the Chicago police department.  There are vamps and werewolves and a horny spirit living in a human skull.  It's good times.

Charlaine Harris' Sookie Stackhouse books:  I loved these before they became so popular.  Haha.  HBO made a series called True Blood based off of these books.  There is more sex in the show, but otherwise they stay pretty true to the books.  Well, except for Tara, but Alan Ball did make her very interesting... Read the books.  Watch the show.  I love them both.  Anna Paquin is really the perfect Sookie.

J.D. Robb's In Death series:  I like romance, but I can't take all of the corny, crappy stories that they usually come along with.  So Nora Roberts futuristic crime drama is just enough romance and crime fighting for me.  There really is no need to read all of this series, since after a while they all become the same story with a different crime... but I found them entertaining for a while.

Anything by Kate DiCamillo:  Yes, she is a children's author.  But her books are so good!!!  You should read The Tale of Desperaux: Being the Story of a Mouse, a Princess, Some Soup, and a Spool of Thread.  I absolutely loved it!!!  It was so sweet, a perfect new fairy tale.  I absolutely cannot wait to read this to my students.  The vocabulary is so rich, and the tone is so inviting for young readers.  It doesn't assume that its young audience is stupid, which is what I don't like about some children's books.  The movie comes out in December, and it looks good but I am sure the book is going to be way better.  Also fabulous is Because of Winn Dixie and The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane.

Mo Willems' Pigeon books:  Picture books!  My favorite picture books :) Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus, Don't Let the Pigeon Stay Up Late, The Pigeon Finds a Hot Dog, and The Pigeon Wants a Puppy. Obviously, normal people my age do not read picture books (I'm not normal, haha!).  But if you are going to be a first grade teacher, or if you have kids of your own, they are pretty funny.
