Legality and nonfiction

Cobes or anyone else, help me out here.

If I were to write a non-fiction book entitled something to the effect of "My Bitchy Aunt Lisa: A Guide in Dealing with Psychotics"...

Exactly how careful would I have to be to avoid Aunt Lisa's lawyers? Would I have to triple-check my facts? Is it a dangerous idea at all, defamation-speaking?

Speaking of defamation, my husband heard today that my cousins have been making fun of him for being a mathematician. He heard this from his math department colleagues. To whom they were speaking when making fun of him for being a mathematician. I love my cousisn. I really do.
