We had the weirdest argument in our gaming group last week. One of the guys in it had had an absolutely terrible case of what was probably the flu, and had skipped a game because of it. As of last Tuesday, he was still hacking and wheezing in an alarming manner. As of Friday night (via text, so no one could tell for sure whether he was coughing or not) he claimed to be completely, totally recovered and planning on coming to the game.
Of the five other people in the group, one is asthmatic, one has a lowered immune response due to meds he takes, and a third has a three-month-old baby at home. And the rest of us, while generally healthy and unencumbered by small children, have no desire to get Martian Death Flu. Because of this, and because Sick Guy had absolutely refused to go in and get tested to confirm what it was he did or didn't have, and because Sick Guy had been known to bend the facts about matters of health and hygiene in the past, the game master and the person whose house the game was being held at requested that just to be safe, just for this one game, until we were sure he was definitely non-contagious, Sick Guy either A) wear a face mask, or B) participate remotely by Skype.
Sick Guy got enormously offended, though he wouldn't explain exactly why the request was offensive, and quit the game, delivering an impassioned monologue (still via text) about how the worst thing about Covid-19 was the way it tore families apart. To which the rest of us mouthed "WTF?" and said sorry you feel that way, but we still prefer not to get Martian Death Flu.
So we're waiting to see if he changes his his mind in the next few weeks, but if he doesn't, our pirate crew will be looking for a new ship's engineer. :P
