I have no idea what the pastiche one is pastiching so any humour sails over my head. I am left wondering why Spike is eating the wallpaper. Are they taking the dog metaphor too far?
They've been a staple of US pop culture since the... late 1940s, I think? And one of the main themes is always rich girl Veronica competing with girl-next-door Betty for Archie's affections.
I think rebcake solved the mystery of the other cover - it's a visual pun: Spike's chewing the scenery. *g*
Maybe the fandom really wants to see character progression and not just regression? *looks at the comics* *waves innocently* I also posted the cover with Angel, Faith and Spike. It's the most cutest thing ever and my love for Rebekah Isaacs knows no bundaries. She's the best!
I liked the Archie pastiche better than the other cover. It irritates me that Rebeckah Isaacs can't get Spike right, though. She's so good at everything else, but she's drawn Spike's face too broad and it makes him look bland.
She does the same with Angel, but I think with Spike there's less excuse because he's so odd looking to start with.

That's true! She makes the same mistake with Angel, but it doesn't seem so wrong with DB's face. I'm waiting for the comic, because in the panels she can do better and she has a great sense of space. I'm impressed by her take on Faith and, generally, I love her artistic trait. It's peculiar and nice. Still, we need to see Spike looking good. I'm not so satisfied with Steve Morris' cover. Those teeth make no sense.

The fandom is aging?
Soon we'll be irrelevant! *sob*

That was my first thought. "Irrelevant" is another story (I'm entering fandom as a middle-aged woman - god how I hate the sound of that.)
