This is a Songfic, it's Sasuke-centric, the song being Three Days Grace - (I Hate) Everything About You.
If you have it, listen to it before you read this. If you don't have it, get it. But I hope you enjoy this whether you do that or not.
Without further ado:
Sasuke quivered in anticipation. His entire body shook with excitement even as the room which he stood within shook again as the earth that surrounded the walls on all sides was shook by the power of that which approached. A dark and hateful presence pervaded the entire sanctum of Orochimaru, and it was coming closer to him. Highly sensitive, razor sharp ninja senses picked up every fluctuation of a power source he had come to know intimately over the past three years.
Every time we lie awake,
After every hit we take,
Every feeling that I get,
But I haven't missed you yet.
He had fought, he had ran. He had trained under it's constantly watchful presence. Always, it had seemed to know where he was, always it had followed him, chased him, pushed him harder, faster, deeper, stronger. When it accosted him the challenge was beyond anything he experienced anywhere else. Never in Konoha had he felt it's limitless malice and power. Never again would he feel it anywhere else, this would be the end for one of them, that much he knew. That was his true destiny.
Every roommate kept awake,
By every sigh and scream we make,
All the feelings that I get,
But I still don't miss you yet.
Every time they had clashed, he had survived.. by the very hairs on the back of his neck he survived, he was able to continue living, continue walking down the path he had chosen, one of darkness and revenge, of hatred and power. But yes, despite the grand leaps and bounds he took in skill, ability, in experience and power.. never did he come close to it's overwhelming force. He had never been able to match it. This time.. things would be different.
I hate everything about you!
Why do I love you?
I hate everything about you!
Why do I love you?
Secrets, old and forbidden had been revealed to the Uchiha Scion. He had raided a storehouse of knowledge and taken from it a scroll that any Ninja in existence would be drooling to get their hands on. From it, he had secretly studied, and from it, he had gained power. These powers, they had led him to many things, to new abilities, to surpassing his brother, to even challenging that constant force that seemed to know his every move..
Every time we lie awake,
After every hit we take,
Every feeling that I get,
But I haven't missed you yet.
He had anticipated this day for three years now, the day he would win, the day he would decisively prove that none could stand in the way of his destiny, and the rebuilding of his clan. Only this force, and this force alone had ever truly had a chance to divert him, to change his path. But always, it seemed to push him forward instead, sometimes purposefully, sometimes not. It had only fueled his desire after the meeting with His brother, Naruto, and the Akatsuki.
I hate everything about you!
Why do I love you?
I hate everything about you!
Why do I love you?
The doors to the room which he resided in, what was once a large sparring arena, spacious enough to support even multi-participant battles, were slammed open, blowing off their hinges. He felt it then, the cold stare of that being, that creature, the one he knew better than any other. He had always known it better. It had hunted him, and he had hunted it, each had changed, shifted, meta morphed into something different. Now, they were dark mirrors of each other, parodies of what they had once been.
Only when I stop to think,
About you, I know.
Only when you stop to think,
About me, do you know.
Red eyes found him, and the pressure behind that gaze was almost a physical blow, lesser beings would have been knocked off their feet from the sheer intensity behind the calculating, crimson and black hues. Sasuke's Sharingan rose, and he met that gaze, even and equal were both, Blood Red Gazes were peaceful, like the calm before the storm. He had gotten over his rage at the sight of this man, his past, his present, whom had been his future.. two years ago he had gotten over that rage. It only served to cause mistakes, made him foolish. No words were spoken, they were not needed, everything had been said long, long ago.
I hate everything about you!
Why do I love you?
You hate everything about me!
Why do you love me?
As if by silent agreement, the battle began. Both shot forward with incredible speed, no normal eye, even the most discerning gazes of top ranked ninja would have been lost, bewildered, confused in their attempts to follow the fight which ensued. The participants, the adversaries, the enemies were matched in nearly every way, where one was strong, the other was weak, but they each made up for it in their own way.
I. Hate!
You. Hate!
I.Hate!
You Love Me.
Jutsu were traded and blows exchanged, blood splattered bodies slammed into surfaces. Walls were shattered as sounds of the epic clash filled the room and shook the entire structure. This battle was unlike the others, it was not dotted with the same periodic staring matches that all the others had been. At one point, an explosion powerful enough to punch a hole through over fifty feet of solid earth was unleashed.. only to be dodged.. one shot up the hole, quickly followed by the other as conflict spilled into the tranquil branches of the forest.
I hate everything about you!
Why do I love you...?
Slowly, a victor began to emerge. Even as every life within leagues held it's breath at the tension in the air. Such was the raw power and warrior spirit of each. But there had to be an end, a true victor, they had agreed to as much at the end of their last battle, though no words had been spoken before each had parted.. living to fight another day. Sasuke was slowly beaten back, again and again his enemy withstood his attacks. He simply could not generate the same amount of power, it was then that he realized it.. what he had never been able to realize before. It was hopeless, he could not win. Sasuke did not try to dodge the blow that came next, he couldn't anyway. A fiery red extension of power emanated from his adversary and blasted him backwards through several trees. Strangely, he knew peace even as he was engulfed in heat before blackness overcame him. The figure seeing it had won took a moment to catch it's breath before walking forward. It's steps were silent even after this. It's clothing, though torn and burnt was still in tact. He bled from many wounds, but none were deep enough to threaten his life, though Sasuke had come close many a time to inflicting a wound deep enough to kill even him. The figure's red gaze shifted as his sight turned down to the smoldering body of his eternal rival.
"I never wanted it to come to this, Sasuke, I'm sorry. Say Hi to Kakashi-Sensei and Sakura-chan for me, eh bastard?.... Goodbye."
The man, his eyes closed while the blue windows to his soul darkened once more, turned and walked away.
