THE TOMB OF RAGZULA or THIS USED TO BE MY PLAYGROUND OF HORROR!

Well, don't know how much artwork I'll be gettin' done within' the next few weeks, as the boxing up of my Las Vegas life must take center stage. The walls of The Ragzpad is now bare. The posters have been ripped from the walls n' rolled up, the kazillion comics, cd's n' dvd's lie tightly together in boxes and soon the rest shall follow as we get down to the wire for the move.
We did manage to take a break from the stuffin' and make it out to the Las Vegas Supercon. It was a small little anime themed convention, but it drew quite a big crowd and it was fun seeing people nerd up and wig out as the wifey and her friends ran their charity booth. I fished thru boxes of $1 comics and found quite alot of gems. Yeah yeah. Like I need more shit to box up, but this one vendor had some good stuff-some old Kirby "2001:A Space Odyssey" & "Kamandi" stuff, some "House of Mystery" issues,a classic Gene Colon,"Tomb of Dracula" n' more. They were slightly beat up, but I don't care. I love that stuff!
He he- check me out in the background in someone's pic of the convention. I've ruined someone's photo!

As I sat at the booth and doodled I finished up this drawing I've been working on-a scene from one of my fave Harryhausen flicks-"The Golden Voyage of Sinbad"-

It was a pretty involved scene from the movie, but I needed to challenge myself and see if I could pull it off from a reference photo. I quite like how it turned out!

Also, one of the prizes to win from our table was the Bayonetta drawing I did that I mentioned in an earlier post. I colored it in color pencil, watercolor & terpinoid. This was another challenge cuz the character has so much going on with her, as most video game characters do. The designers of these characters always tend to over-accessorize their characters. So they are always a challenge to do. Plus, I haven't worked with color pencils in awhile.

But it turned out ok, I guess. She does look a little like Sarah Palin to me. I was told that the person who won it was pretty thrilled about it and some people entered the raffle just so they could win the drawing. I hope that's true!

I've also been working on finishing up the pencils for my Plazmo comic, which I'll post soon. Till then, enjoy this little sketch of Lon Chaney as The Phantom Of The Opera!

So, anyways, the stripping down of The Ragzpad has left me a little down. Sure, I'm excited about moving and starting fresh in Orange County, but I've got a lot of memories in this place-good and bad. I find myself humming Madonna's "This Used To Be My Playground" as I box this stuff up. Plus, I just feel sad that all my stuff is in boxes. Yeah, it's silly, but I love my stuff. I could never be one of those hippies that live without possessions cuz I'm just too much a lover of material things. In fact, when I die, I'm gonna have all my stuff buried with me like a Pharaoh's tomb. Then when someone digs it all up centuries later, a curse will be cast upon them as I shuffle thru the streets hunting down all those that have taken stuff out of my tomb.
Hey,it's taken me years to accumulate all this garbage.
Though, I have tossed alot of junk out that I can't believe I've kept all these years. And when I see shows like "Hoarders" I question if I've reached that point. The only difference I see between them and I is that I actually have stuff filed away neatly and that I keep the place clean.
And I do throw out the garbage instead of just tossing it in a corner!
But I have amassed alot of stuff over the years and I'm gonna miss my stuff as it lays in boxes for who knows how long til I can release them upon a new home.
Ok,now I'm starting to scare myself. I talk about my stuff like it's some sentient being.
What can I say, I've learned my home decorating skills from The Ghoul and Forrest J. Ackerman!

Yet still-I NEED MORE BOXES!!!

sinbad, bayonetta, lon chaney, the ghoul, forrest j. ackerman, ragzart, jack kirby, ray harryhausen
