I like when people I haven't seen for two years and are on relatively good (decent?) terms with repeatedly come to Boston from New York and don't call me or chat me up, despite staying with friends who live less than ten minutes from my work. I would be entirely ok with that person saying "Oh hey I'd rather not see you, I don't know if I can handle

Sounds pretty dickish on her part to me. Rest assured that when I'm in the neighborhood of someone I'm still on good terms with, I try to get in touch with them. That blows.
