That subject is where I'm gonna be soon if this dental nonsense keeps up. HEADS UP: I'm bitter, tired and in pain. If you're easily offended...don't bother reading.
Quick story summary: I started to get a toothache the Sunday before last, (Feb 3), by Monday the pain had intensified quite a bit and so I made appointment with my dentist for Wednesday.
Tues. AM: After about three hours of restless sleep I woke up crying from the pain, took a couple of extra stength advil and carried on with my day.
Wednesday: At the dentist my toothache was starting to ease up and I was reassured by the diagnosis of "bruised nerve". No infection, no nasty antibiotics and best of all...no root canal! "Give it a week, then see how it feels" quoth the dentist...nevermore!
Thursday: The day went fairly well, minimal pain, taking maximum dose of extra strength Advil but I'm still survivng. That night I noticed the curious sensation of my lower left lip and chin going numb (this is also the side of the tooth issue). I didn't think much of it, and went back to sleep.
Friday: Woke up, once again, crying from the intense pain. At this point I discovered that not only had my face begin to swell but I had a large, firm lump the size of a walnut along my jaw line. Unfortunately, my dentist isn't open Fridays so I opted to take even MORE Advil and soldier on.
Saturday: Worst pain of the week, this time with the friendly accompaniment of a fever. Called around to a few dentists but was told my best option would be to go to the walk-in-clinic and get antibiotics prescribed rather than paying for the dentist to the do the same thing. Followed instructions, came home and felt like crap.
Sunday: Pain. Swelling. Numb. Fever. You get the point.
Monday: Made the dentist "squeeze me in" today...Sorry but it's kind of BS that you can't make an opening for someone who's been in pain for a week! GAWD. So the dentist did some tests, tapped my tooth...repeatedly...>_<...and announced: not much at all. Turns out when I first went in we had figured it was one of my molars that had a bunch of fillings that was giving me trouble. This time around, it was most definitely a different molar...as realized by this damned tapping. However, the x-rays didn't show anything promising, and actually argued against the idea that this particular molar was causing the problem. There was also no abcess found and that mysterious lump on my face had disappeared, he shall be missed. So, I was given a prescription for T3's and a referral to an Endontist (root canal specialist). The specialist's next available consultation is March 10th. Ugh. I said that with the addition of T3s to my daily pill regime (3 antibiotics a day, Alternate Advil with T3s every three hours) that I would probably be able to wait. I'm such a damn fool. Between 4 and 11 PM I took two T3s and two Advils and then went to be. At 2 AM I woke up, in severe pain, the swelling is back and I feel like vomitting. I then called the endodontist and left a message to see if they can fit me in today.
Moral of the story: Teeth effing suck. Also, if I can get an appointment today I'll have to call in sick for work. Yesterday I managed to get someone else to cover...today might not be bad because the regular day ends at around 11 AM with the girl who works mornings sticking around till about 12 or 1 to walk the dogs, clean up etc. I typically head in around 4 to do the same thing. So if she were required to work the whole day because I'm busy getting my face drilled, it wouldn't be as bad as her having to work 7 AM - 7 PM.
I realize much of this doesn't really make sense, but to be fair it's 330 AM, I've slept about two hours...maybe three if I'm feeling generous, and I've been technically overdosing on Advil for the past week. My literal abilities are somewhat lacking.
In closing, I leave you with some words of wisdom from "Tourettes Guy": Let me tell you about a porcupine's balls! They're small..and they don't give a SHIT!
Indeed they don't Tourettes Guy...indeed they don't.
