Well, remember back in September when I did that AFTRA job and tried to leverage it into SAG eligibility? Well, the AFTRA office sent me a copy of my contract, which showed the info the SAG office needed. But by the time I got it, expenses came up, and I didn't have enough cash to pay the initiation fee.
Well, now my tax refund has come back, and I have used most of that to pay for my SAG initiation. I went into the office on Tuesday, filled out the paper work, and voila! I am now a member of SAG.
What does this mean? Well, now I can submit for SAG jobs with a hope of being considered for an audition. Usually, a production will put you in a "union" or "non-union" pile and consider the union actors first. The second thing it means is I can no longer take non-union jobs. True, those jobs tended to pay little to nothing, so if I kick my ass into high gear I should be able to make more than I was. However, even if it pays less, there is a bunch more non-union work than union. So I'm going to have to hit all the casting agencies hard, even the ones up in Philly. Fortunately, things like the 48-Hour Film Project has provision for allowing SAG members to perform, so I'll still be able to do that.
Anyway, things are progressing forward. I'll keep you posted.
