(no subject)
In my last entry, I mentioned Kyuss having a sore foot.
He was still using the limb mostly normally, and it wasn't swollen, so I left him to heal on his own (vets can do very little about sprains and such in rats. The usually just give an anti-inflmmatory and leave it to heal on its own - even in rats with breaks, this is all they tend to do). Now, however, he is bunching his hand up to walk.
Its still not swollen, but he doesn't like extending his toes now. Im guessing he has strained a ligament. I've made him a vet appointment for monday, though I still suspect there will be little my vet will do with it.
Monday will also be Karni's final vet visit :( She has a tumour on her belly, and has already had one removed not so long ago, and is showing signs of a possible brain tumour too. As she is a rescue, I don't know how old she actually is, but I'd guess she is around 2.
She was given to me by a woman who 'couldn't cope' with her anymore (she had young kids, was unemployed, had a lot of issues of her own) and neither Karni nor her sister Queenie had names when they came to me, and their owner didn't know how long she'd had them. They both had tumours when I got them, which the previous owner hadn't even noticed, and they both underwent surgery once with me.
Queenie was put to sleep a few weeks ago because the tumours had spread to her lungs. They're both just poorly bred rats with poor cancer resistance. Its sad, but its the fault of people who carelessly breed rats without any thought to health or longevity, such as pet shops and BYBs.
I'll let you know what happens with Karni. For now, she is still eating and drinking.
