I can't believe how difficult it is to donate and volunteer your time and energy. I've spent half the day looking for places to volunteer, both to make new friends and to add to my resume. I've never volunteered before for anything. I'm already looking at requirements of attending volunteering fairs over an hour's drive from here, and not until the very end of the month. Apparently, you can't just walk in a location and offer to help. There is a ton of red tape to get through, not to mention interviewing and waiting. No wonder more people don't do it.
I'm still willing to wade through this mire, but wow. I was not at all expecting it! So far, I'm looking at senior citizen community centers (involves fixing up seniors' houses, doing yard work, stuff that I think sounds fun and would help me keep active), and animal shelters (because, duh, I love animals). There is a senior center that sounds like great fun but it's a long drive, too far. So I'm going to call them and see if they know of anything in the area.
I really wish I could just build homes for people on Extreme Makeover Home Edition, but that involves actual skill and travel.
But first, I need to finish packing up the boxes for donations. Tomorrow, the Purple Heart are stopping by with their donation truck (for anyone not familiar with them, they gather goods to sell to resale shops and use the money for war veterans rehab, training, medical equipment and more). I hope the rain lets up because I have to leave these things on the front porch.
The job hunt remains, as ever, repetitive and bleak. Wish me luck there, too.
ETA: after rescue attempts proved futile, my new unnamed betta died within the last hour. This is why I don't name new fish. :( So sad.
