Bachelorette Party

Anna organized a great bachelorette party for me. Amy and Janel joined us at Saucebox for dinner. Amy and I had gone there a long time ago, but it had been so long, I hardly remembered. I was really impressed with their cocktails (I tried two of their seasonal specials, featuring muddled golden apples). For dinner I tried to order sushi but actually ended up getting more like a shrimp cocktail -- only with tuna. It was delicious, so I didn't mind. I also tried their tapioca dumplings, which were delicious.

After, we walked over to Darcelle XV, where Radhi met us. It's a drag show which is apparently particularly popular for bachelorettes. That was definitely apparent -- there were about five men in an audience of more than a hundred, of which one was dressed as a woman, three were quite obviously gay, and one was there for his girlfriend's birthday. Nevertheless, it was a pretty funny show, though I have to say, most of the guys were very unattractive. Or rather, they had amazingly toned legs given their rather enormous bellies. But it was a lot of fun and I was thoroughly impressed with their dancing and lip-syncing skills.

At the end of the show, they brought all of the bachelorettes onstage and I received a free tape and glass of champagne. The girls also bought me a terrific souvenir photo of the five of us with Darcelle. Then I wanted to go to the bathroom before we left, which was apparently a lucky move because the other girls got to see an XXX male strip-tease. Upon my return, they were clearly quite horrified, so we tried to skidaddle as quickly as possible. But we had to wait for Anna's credit card to come back, during which time one of the "dancers" came over to Anna and tried to offer her a lap dance. I think he was pretty disgusted that Anna didn't want to rub his nipples :)

Anyhow, it was everything I could have hoped for from my bachelorette party, and it definitely makes me happy to have Julien as my future husband.
