Resolution #1: I will never again start reading a 150K word big bang "just cos" at 8pm in the evening.

Resolution #2: I will never again read a story that comes with an encyclopedia of warnings.

Resolution #3: When I am given MULTIPLE header warnings on a fic, I will heed them.

Resolution #4: When I get a "bad feeling" halfway through a fic--which I ( Read more... )

One of my friends warned me to stop reading that fic after I told her I had just finished the first part. She said she wished she hadn't read it. Sounds like her warning to me was a good one!

i love that it wasn't forced to be all happy endings & sunshine, and it has the kind of flow that won't let you go once you start reading it.

give it a few days to settle.

Hmmm yeah I was warned away from that fic...given my proclivity for a happy ending - still glad I heeded the warning.

I feel for you. I swore off *fill in the blank* many many years ago when I was gutted during the whole experience and even worse was after when I could not fire bomb it from my memory. No matter how I appreciated how well done it was, it Just Was Not For Me.

I sympathize.

Someone had the great idea early in the LoTRP's fandom to do a contest for unhappy fanfics. After about the tenth deathfic and suicide/self mutilation/eating disorder fic I had to stop.

It was really getting to me. From now on it's only upbeat endings for me. Not that life is like that but because fanfic to me is entertainment and escape. If I want to get depressed I can think about real life. :)

I like angst in small doses. Mainlining 150K words of FUBAR angst though, is a feat I will never again attempt.
