Why Every TV Addict Should Knit!

i have no shame in admitting i'm addicted to my tv. (before the new season starts i should probably make a post with all the tv shows i'll be following, and the ones i've given up.) plus, there are always old series to get caught up on, and movies to see...point is, i spend a lot of my time in front of a tv or computer screen. and though i love my tv, i hate feeling unproductive. so what's a girl to do?

knit.

seriously, it's pretty easy to learn, and great for doing while you watch things. there are tons of free patterns on the interent to play with, and you get the benefit of a new cute little toy or an awesome sweater (or WHATEVER you want to knit) when you finish watching that fifth episode of doctor who. i just started knitting this summer and i've already made lots of cute things to share.

first, knitted toys. there's a new japanese fad called amigurumi that i'm in love with. all of my toy patterns come from "the knitted toybox"- and there are links there to crochet patterns as well. so here are the toys i've made:

<-- my first toy, a koala

  <--- "sugar bunny"

<--- a little bluebird

<--- a turtle (the yarn that looks gray here is actually a sparkly light blue!)

<--- "wee mouse"

<--- whale

  <--- "love bug"

all of the animals need names still, btw...any ideas there?

and then my first piece of knitted clothing, a really adorable shirt! i was too lazy to put it on to take photos, but you can see what it looks like on at the pattern page.

<--- detail of the collar, bow and sleeves!

so i have a few projects i'm still interested in knitting. (rose's doomsday wristwarmers are pretty fascinating but will require me to learn cables!) on the other hand, after finding these fangirl gems on a livejournal site i will probably have to learn crochet!)

i have a few more craft projects of the summer, some fangirl-y, and some not. i'll post those later. do any of my lovely f-listers do crafts? if so, i'd love to hear about them! (also, if anyone else knits and would like more information on the yarn i used or anything like that, feel free to ask.)

attack of the cute, life as a fangirl, doctor who = fantastic, picspam, being crafty
