Okay, so I have a bit of ridiculousness going on in my head as my time of the month cycles through. However... I almost exclusively use the library and never regret it. I'm looking through older journal entries and I see hoards of books that I've read and don't remember much about, but apparently loved. I don't see that I tagged anything about loving "I'm Down" by Mishna Wolff, so I want to mention it again. I highly recommend the poignant and funny memoir about a girl who grew up in South Seattle with a father who more closely identified with being black despite being white. Just as she learned to cope in that culture, she was uprooted to a largely white, upper class school and found herself completely unable to relate again. Constantly forced to adjust her perspective based on her life circumstances, Wolff seems to tell a story of being beyond your years and never quite fitting in with a sharp sense of humor. Her narrative can, at times, only have come from a child without being offensive to someone. While we experience her intense disappointments, we also watch her amazing character attempt to make her way in the world. In other words, very, very good... and funny.
