So, what's been going on...
I got to see Counting Crows at Memphis in May. That was a LOT of fun. They've been my favorite band since high school, when I switched over to them from Collective Soul. My friend John Murphy went with me. We got there just in time to see a local Memphis band called Egypt Central. They were pretty good, the main singer had a broken leg and had to perform from a wheelchair, but he did a great job I thought. I was really impressed with them. Next Papa Roach played, they were ok. The lead singer got out in the crowd and sang while walking around which I thought was pretty ballsy of him. They put on a pretty decent show. After watching him we sardined our way over to grab some food. We saw some people walking around with these massive corndogs. I mean HUGE monster dogs... Battered and fried up to a golden crisp and then slathered in mustard. We purchased some and they were delicious. When this deliciousness was combined with the power of beer it can get scary. Mmmmmmmm.
(10 minutes pass)
Ok sorry, I've snapped out of it now. So after the corndogs we went over to the Cingular stage were we were lucky enough to catch Barenaked Ladies. These guy were the best performers of the day. They made jokes with the crowd, they made up songs about their experiences in Memphis, and they played all their good songs. Before that concert I just sorta liked them and knew them for the whole "Still be 2 days till we say we're sorry" song. After that however I'm a fan. I got a cd and LOVE it. The stage is located next to a hill upon which there are several not that large but expensive looking houses. These are on the right side of the stage as you face the crowd; on the left is the Mississippi River. In the houses there were two families watching the concert from their porches up on the hill. At one point in between songs the band yelled to them and actually talked one of the guys into dropping his pants and mooning us all. With all the people down there I bet he mooned 10k people. It was amazing and I was jealous of that man. ^_^
So after the Barenaked Ladies it was time for Counting Crows. I almost died. I got completely star-struck, which really shocked me. I've never felt that before, and it kinda weirded me out a little bit. I was surrounded by fans, some of which liked the band as much or more than me. Much singing was done and much fun was had. I soaked up every minute of the show, which included a version of Round Here that featured some New Orleans music. It was enjoyed.
So there's that.
I'm the best man tomorrow at Marty's wedding. He'll be the second of our group to get married, and I'm glad that I won't be the only one anymore. It's sort of a bittersweet event however, because not long after he'll be moving down to Denton, TX for their master's program. Thank heavens for the Interwebs eh? It'll be fun to visit them but it sucks that I'll be luck to see him a few times a year (assuming they come back to visit their family on holidays). I'm also a little nervous about tonight. I have a fear of public speaking and I may have to give a speech tonight at the reception. I'm sure I'll do fine, I'm trying to to worry about it but that just seems to make it worse. I'm hoping that if I just talk from the heart that my brain will be smart enough to not make me sound like some blathering idiot. Although that's pretty much what I am so I may be hoping for rain on a sunny day...
I went to see 28 weeks later a few days ago. AWESOME MOVIE. It felt like a roller-coaster from the start to the finish. When it was over I was exhausted. If you like tense movies about zombies then go see this guy. It's not that gory although there definitely is a bit of blood thrown in there. It's also got Michael from Lost attacking zombies from a helicopter and if you're a Lost fan that's probably reason enough to go see it. I dubb thee movie NOT CRAP!
We leave tomorrow after the wedding to go to the beach in Alabama. I'm excited. I need a vacation bad. We'll have wireless internet down there so I'll try to update as I can.
