First off, I've been thinking the whole political structure of this country has been fucked for years..but it's even more awful to realise the truth of that, when in retrospect, our last two elections have come to a worse of the two evils situation.Sure, did I dislike the haunted-tree that is Kerry? Maybe so..but Bush has already proved himself to be a liar, a failed economist, an embarassing war-leader and a poor representative of America for the rest of us not living in the top earnings percentile. Kerry has yet to do that. So we figured, better the devil - you know? Kerry at least had a potential for a fresh start.Between a leader that has certifiably fucked up this nation and an untested one, I'd choose the untested one. Waking up today just to really sink in to the obvious was hard, but expected sadly.."An uninformed electorate voted for Bush - there's no other explanation."
CNN reported that the two biggest issues for Bush supporters were;
1. Moral Issues
2. War in Iraq...
That's just...great. I can bet most of them also were swayed by the 1% rebate and can still barely afford adequate health-care for the family, but feel at least we're showing the brown people of the world who's boss, and those damn dirty gays cant' get married. (sarcasm) The remainder were just to rich to care about morals and were looking forward to the next big tax break..
That goes back to my whole issue with the voting system and the political structure of America in general.It was great in it's day, and the forefathers tried to encompass alot, thus needing an electoral college and all, but now, feh, it's so obsolete it's working against us. I don't personally believe in any of Bush's po-huh-huh-holo-litics, i have to admit, that in each of the debates Kerry didn't tell me how he was going to do something, only that he was going to do it. It was a real no-win situation from the get-go.
In the words of Mark Driver:
"Of course, there is the nihilist in me that wants four more years of the Bush junta--pure intellectual curiosity to see how bad things can actually get, both for the people of this country and the brown, other-religioned people around the world we can't keep ourselves from messin' with. Body counts. Tanks in the streets. Another big terrorist attack. Martial law. Re-education camps. Sean Hannity telling us all that it's patriotic to inform our block supervisor of any prospective enemies of the State. Fuck it. I don't have any kids to worry about. Let the blood run red in the streets! Four more years! Four more years!"
I think ALL political systems should be rolled back to every person who is registered to vote getting a copy of every manifesto attacks on policies and records allowed. Attacks on people's integrity, spine or sleaze, not allowed. Keep the funding limit to something too small to hire a PR type for and fund from the state. To spread manifestos there should a deposit after the first election, for anyone who got less than 3% in the last one.Suddenly, only people who care will vote. Id rather than 5% of the population voted on an informed basis than 50% after being brainwashed and lied to by parties who serve the comapnies that fund them. Democracy only works if people are told truthfully what each party will try to do, and then vote according to what suits them. Any other premise is distortion of the vote.
If you thought our economy was doing poorly up until now, ha, just wait until you see what happens when select Europeans and Chinese decide to dump all those American T-bills and dollars they own. Right now the only thing holding up our economy is faith. The Europeans and Chinese could happily tank our economy now and form a cozy little relationship with each other. The value of the Euro will skyrocket after our economy falls into the shithole, and their influence in the international scene will be greatly enhanced as well. Considering how antagonistic we've been with them, they now have no reason not to do something like this.Also, once our economy tanks, they really have no more reason to worry about their trade with us. They stand to make more trading with China anyway.Iran and our other enemies in the Middle East will have free reign to do whatever the f**k they want because they know our troops are tied up in the quagmire in Iraq and Afghanistan. North Korea will be free to do whatever the fuck they want because our troops will be tied up in Iraq and Afghanistan. Right now the only ones who can keep North Korea in check is China and South Korea.
Right now we are fucked, fucked, fucked, people. Pardon my French. I'm really pissed off and depressed right now.Welcome to the Christofascist state that was once America. Enjoy yourselves.
And now we're royally fucked. I can't wait for Bush to declare that everyone in the US who is not white, male, cisgendered, straight or rich is hereby subhuman and unworthy of any kind of constitutional or even basic human rights, so says his god and all the crooked bastards in the Vatican mocking the sanctity of Religious freedoms and the Bible Belters who are really pulling his fucking strings...Running away won't do anyone any good in the long run.
What's next? Move to Canada? Nah, not me. I hate bringing up comparisons to Nazi Germany as much as anyone, though that is going to be harder and harder to do in the next four years.Running away to Canada or running away to Europe, or running away to Mars, it will only do you good until these filthy corrupt people decide to invade there as well. My persepctive on what happened to Germany during the rise of the Nazis is the other angle that is not discussed in history texbooks, many will quickly go over this concept of the "brain drain" while the "elites" and educated that had to means to all left Germany and relocated to the US and other parts of Europe, and what did that leave in Germany? The common people who could not afford to leave. I really think this perspective needs to be seen and understood, that when the going gets (really) bad, leaving the country only makes things worse in the long run and if the people most concerned about the events would stay and fight, it is better than leaving and dimishing the numbers of the resistance movement.
I'm ill with it all, even though i expected it.I just can't believe the American people are this fucking stupid, greedy, and evil. Woohoo, enjoy that 1% tax rebate.Whoopee-wing-dang-doodle-do.
