I finally went digital on tuesday and got myself a digital SLR. I've been shooting film for so long. I was just having a hard time finding something good enough to replace it.
I did some extensive research, finally made a decision on what I wanted and set off to
Henry's. I had my heart set on the
Nikon D90 with an 18-200mm. I got there and hummed and hawed. Spoke to the guy behind the counter. Played with it a bit. The price of what I wanted was daunting and I wanted to make sure I was happy.
After playing a bit I asked the guy "So, what else can you show me that's comparable and maybe a little more in my budget?". What he said to me next surprised me. "Sony." he says. "Really???". Anyway, to make a long story short, he showed me the
Sony Alpha 700.
This camera is the equivalent of
Nikon's D300 which is the step up from the D90. It also allowed me to use my older lens from my Minolta. Also, unlike the Nikons, the optical stabilizer is built into the body which means that you don't need to spend the extra money on a lens that has one, among other great features.
All this being said, this was the biggest bang for my buck. I actually ended up spending about $600 less than I had originally planned! I'm thrilled! Now I just have to learn how to use the damned thing! LOL!! It's taking a little getting used to but I'm getting there. The real test will be taking it to the race track tomorrow night. Cross your fingers for me!
