Gah. I haven't read anything so gorgeous in a long long time.

I think I need to re-read it to properly soak it all in but these bits leap out at me:

Serious things aren't serious.
Silly things aren't silly.
People rarely get it right.

Booth likes that Brennan reminds him of this.
She lectures with clinical detachment.
He likes that too.
It drives him crazy
and rolls his eyes like marbles back into his head.

He hopes she never stops.
She is his favorite itchy sweater that never gets old.
There is no one else he'd rather touch.

Just the perfect description of what Brennan is to Booth and they to each other.

It is their way.

Partners first.
Friends second.
Lovers last.

Not necessarily in that order.

LOVE that.

I adore Cam in this.

Lovely, lovely fic. Thank you so much for sharing what was obviously a labour of true love ♥

People rarely get it right.

Oscar Wilde said, "Life is far too important a thing ever to talk seriously about it." I felt the need to add onto that, though. Heh. It's in the details. People obsess about crap that doesn't matter. They ignore what does. I love that Brennan is able to remind everyone how to look outside the box by being an anthropologist (and just by being *her*). As Ani Difranco says (I love QUOTES, ha), "Ya gotta look outside your eyes, ya gotta think outside your brain, ya gotta walk outside your life to where the neighborhood changes."

And if you're not willing to try? Well, then, you suck. Haha. J/K.

I adore Cam in this.OMG, yay! I wasn't confident at all about writing her, but I really, really *wanted* to. I'm glad it worked for you ( ... )

I'm thrilled in general that you liked it, honestly. You're one of my fave fic authors.

Dawww! *blushes furiously*

That's very kind. And yay for friend addage - yes, why weren't we already??! Have added you back :)

(I always feel the same about writing Cam, btw. She's one of the most fun of all of them to write but for some reason nervewracking too!)

ETA: LOVE the quotes. I always wish I could remember stuff like that / remember to gather them together somewhere when I read them!

You know what I think it is? It's an issue you have to be careful with--she's a minority actress who gets less screentime than her counterparts (Michaela's a minority too, but, let's face it--being African American is more difficult in Hollywood than being half white/half Asian). That's a blunt way to put it, but it's true. Less screentime = less material to base your characterization/writing upon. You don't want to make her two-dimensional or some kind of Mary Sue sidekick, dropping in to give pithy advice or one-liners & that's it. I was very concerned about making her come across that way, and I really hope I didn't. I truly love Cam's character & see her as a complete person.

You need a file cabinet brain! Hee.

and to avoid reading about the Pacific Theater of WWII

HA. I love WWII history, but I know exactly what you mean. For some reason the Pacific Theater has a way of being taught in a really tedious way.

I'm glad you enjoyed it. :)

This was really lovely, but so dense that I'm not going to be able to leave a coherent comment until I let it percolate for awhile, so I hope to be back with a lengthier comment. I picked out the Runaway Bunny right away - thanks to what seemed like endless readings of that treasure to my own child.

Haha, I hope it wasn't too dense for you! I am used to saying things that leave people with, "I'm gonna have to get back to you on that"-thinky faces though, so it's cool. Heh.

I love The Runaway Bunny. Taken as either a spiritual allegory, or even a metaphor for always coming back to oneself, it's just simply beautiful. (I kinda prefer not to interpret it literally, but that's for personal reasons)

That's amazing. There are so many things to say, but what most stands out is the part about Booth not being a gambler anymore. That, more than anything, captures the change in Booth's character this year, and I didn't realize it until I read it here.

Also, the use of Emily Dickinson was just about perfect.

Yay, I'm so glad that got through to at least one person! Everyone's been talking about Booth rejecting Brennan solely because it was the right thing--which is true--but no one so far seemed to mention that "the right thing" wasn't only about ~teaching her what love meant~ and ~being the type of guy who doesn't leave one woman for another~ and bla bla bla. When Booth offered his heart to Brennan, he *literally* said, "I'm the gambler." He wanted to give it a shot. He lost that gamble, and he lost BIG. In "The Doctor in the Photo", she asked for another "chance" and said she made a mistake. Cue: my fanfic, his gambling history, his childhood, and so much more. It's way more complicated than fandom's been giving it credit for.

Also, Emily Dickinson is ♥♥♥.

Thanks so much for your comment. :) I'm glad you liked it!
