I went to get my haircut yesterday, the only person I trust to do my hair right is down here where my parents live so every time I come down I get a cut, even if I don't really need one.
So, I went in with Jayelynn. She was running around playing with stuff, and a lady on the other end of the salon started talking about her daughter. She said something abotu her daughter having jsut had a baby. Her hairdresser said something like "Oh, was it a good experience?" in reference to the birth, and the woman said to her "No, she got an emergency c-section. She almost died! I don't know why they let her go 24 hours in hard labor, they could've just called me and i would've told them that "it" was too big to come out- 8lbs, 22 inches!"
Okay, this made me SO upset. Not because the woman was mean or anything, but because she is someone spreading the rumor that birth is not natural. What the HELL is she thinking that that baby couldn't fit? This woman was big, not just in size but also in height. There is no way her daughter was tiny to make her think that. Next, Jayelynn was 8lbs 1oz, 21 inches and had NO problem coming out of my unstretched vag (yeah, I said that in my mind lol).
If she was in "hard labor" for 24 hours, she was probably induced, in which case that baby was most likely NOT ready to come out. Of course they were having a hard time! It is the "norm" to be in labor for 48 hours (with no stress being communicated from mom or baby, of course) before there is a problem.
I just felt terrible. I wanted to say something, but she wasn't talking to me, and if I would've said something the entire salon would have been invited to rebuttle since she was across the way. I do NOT want to be someone's influence into this kind of conversation. Why is it so rare to find women that BELIEVE in their bodies? They were MADE to have children. Yes, I understand, there are exceptions as per complications and such. I am just saddened that nature is so belittled these days, and the beauty of birth is completely perverted into a terror/haunt worthy action by just about everyone.
If this has offended anyone, I'm sorry. If you did not have your child naturally, I am sorry. I have nothing against your choice, I just don't agree with it for my self. Just please know, when there are no complications involved, birth can be PEACFEUL, BEAUTIFUL, EMPOWERING and COMPLETELY pain-free. I swear!
Love, Rachel.
