I know English is a famously difficult language for the non-native speaker to master. But for those for whom it's a first language...well, "Thank you" should not be a foreign phrase.
I had the *opportunity* to help a faculty member from another department (and another campus--he's in town for a meeting) twice this morning. Once in getting him on our wireless network, and once when he borrowed my phone. Neither were huge deals, but they did take my time. On neither occasion did he say thank you (or if he did, it was sub-audible--I have good hearing).
This pisses me off. Arguably out of proportion to the offense, and certainly enough to post about it. "Thank you" is polite, gracious and costs you *nothing*.
