My apologies for not updating lately; it has been a stressful couple of weeks.
My Grandma Norma passed away on Tuesday the 2nd, and since I couldn’t fly home for the funeral, I’ve been pretty sad. My friends and family have all been wonderfully supportive, and I am sure Grandma would have been the first one to insist that I not miss school. (I had just started my first week of classes in Port Macquarie.) I wrote a little something for the funeral; I have posted it
here, in a separate post. It expresses my feelings of both sadness & optimism- optimism because if it weren’t for Grandma’s influence on my spiritual life, I’d be much worse off. My spirituality sustains me through everything; it is a great gift I was given.
I have mice coming out of my ears! Ody & ‘Chilles had their babies- Ody had eight bubs on May 8th, and ‘Chilles had five wee babies on May 10th. They are so cute! Ody’s babies are starting to “colour up”; I can tell which ones are going to be cappuccino & cream mice like their Daddy Agamemnon, and which ones will be grey like Ody. A few even have her white spot on their backs! ‘Chilles kids are still pink all over, but I suspect a few may look blonde like her and maybe have her white “sword belt”.
Aggie has now been moved into his own separate mousie housie, and is starting to get over his pout- he was quite upset at being torn away from his girls. As soon as the babies are weaned, I will choose a son of his to move in with him; the rest are headed back to the breeder to do their mousie reproduction thang. (Insert cheesy mouse porno musack here.) I will miss them, but on the other hand I can’t think of any more names- I must either start naming them after the Trojans or abandon the Iliad & the Odyssey altogether. So far I’ve just been calling the collective lot of babies “Myrmidons”. ;-)
One other cute Greek mouse note: I have definitely misnamed Odysseus- not only is she female, but she is apparently a Spartan! She loves to steal cheese from the other mice; so far she’s been successful and hasn’t taken a beating. ;-) :-D :-p
The birdie boys are doing fine. Widget is still having issues with my feet, and Toot is still having panic attacks if he can’t see me, but other than that, all is normal.
Yesterday (Saturday May 13th) was the macropod, possum & glider training course with FAWNA; it was very informative and I look forward to fuzzy season. I still have a few supplies I need to get: scales, a hot mat, a new rescue cage or three, certain skin creams and such. Other than that I am pretty well set.
School is going well. There is so much to learn but the instructor does a good job and I think I am keeping up alright. I should be ready to submit my business plan in the next week- and I mean my fully complete plan. I am hoping to be fully up & running by June 30th, but there is still so much to do.
Have some new ideas for jewellery designs that I will be working on this coming week- I need to see who is interested in carrying some of my more “gothic” designs. A bunch of my mainstream jewellery has gone out to the shows; hopefully it will sell. I should find out tomorrow.
The new computer is getting up to speed slowly but surely; a new video card is going to be installed then I will be able to play NWN & The Sims! Yay! The modem is fixed and I will have to get caught up on doing things- must install messenger of some sort, and finish transferring files from the laptop.
So much to do, and so little time!
I am working on eight new reviews for Seventh Scent; will post them as soon as they are done. I am halfway finished; I can usually do one perfume a day so it ought not to be much longer, although I try not to do reviews on school days.
Got the new Michael Baigent book from the library, will have to really get crackin’ on my Fifty Book Challenge list (and my Fifty Film Challenge list, too) as I’ve done a fair bit of interesting, brain-stretching reading this year in spite of being so busy.
My damn back & hips are very achy since the weather got cold & wet; so I am off to take a nice hot bath with Ginger & Black Pepper oils. Both of them are fantastic for arthritis and “old bones”. ;-) This also gives me an excuse to have a long soak with a good book & a hot drink and then curl up in front of the heater afterwards. All my stuff is done that I needed to prep for tomorrow, so unless I get a FAWNA call, I am in relaxation mode!
Oh- forgot to give a final Kookaburra update! Kooky who was with me the last couple of weeks went to the big flight aviary, but was really having a hard time getting back on wing. It took about a week of good food & exercise, but C & P got him up and flaying and he has since successfully rejoined his flock. This is what makes rehab worthwhile; you may lose a lot and risk a lot emotionally, but all it takes is one good release to make you feel better.
On a food note, I made homemade pizza tonight and took some over to my neighbour. When I make up a standard batch of dough there is always enough for two pizzas, so I figured I share in the joy. ;-) I put on fresh parsley & fresh basil from my herb garden, plus sliced salami, pepperoncinis, green olives and onion- I called it the "Buddhist Pizza" because when I asked my neighbour what toppings she liked out of what I had, she said "make me one with everything"! Hahaha! It's an old joke, but a goodie. :-)
My font collection is almost fully installed now, and I have- brace yourselves- 2.5 GIGS of fonts. No duplicates. Umm, can anyone say "obsesssion"? I knew you could!
Hugs & love to you all!
