time* (awd + all season tires+ snow) = sexy like heaven

i just got back from a road test with my winter setup. yesterday i bit the bullet and bought the tires for my winter rims. not exactly something i wanted to do right before christmas, but if i were to leave my car on my summer tires...i would probably get into an accident before i could even leave my driveway.

there's nothing like an inch or so of sleet to make driving hell for most of us. in my s13, forget about going up hills...which one year i barely made it home from the hospital because from good samaritan to my house is one continuous upward grade. as long as i had enough traction to go sideways, i could crabwalk home.

when i used to drive a civic (ef9 hatchback), winter was no problem, but there were pleanty of times i was close to getting stuck as well. it was not nearly as bad as the s13, but at times it was taxing on the mind.

but in comes keiko. i've said it many times before, but my god, its like driving with a cheat code. she's the game genie of snow. i purposely sought out the unplowed streets in my town to see what driving would be like. traction was unbelievable, even the thick layers of snow felt like nothing. turning like a normal person wasn't bad either, it goes where you want it to go so long as you don't try to stick a turn on summer tires in the middle of a heat wave rolling through a puddle of unnaturally cold molasses. but the real fun comes with a quick rallye flick that begins a feint drift. slide early, exit straight, in that moment, every enjoyable sensation that can be sourced from driving flows freely and a large smile and maybe a "wooh!" or "yeah!" or "i peed in your pool!" escapes your mouth. as long as you stick the timing, you feel invincible. you eagerly await the next turn that would allow it.

on the more dorky side, the one thing i really do love about the new tires is the type of evacuation they have. i was kicking up so much snow i covered my own car, and i made a cocky SUV slow down. yep. some would say i'm being an asshole, but really, i couldn't care less. SUV's are the bane to my vehicular existance.

on the down side, being so good in the snow means i don't have an excuse as to why i didn't come into work. work knowing that you drive a rallye bred street car isn't always a good thing....but thick snow is thick snow....

i hope by the time i wake up, the snow is thick.
so thick i can call in a snow day.
and go driving around in the thick snow.
