I need to get this off my chest.

/start rant

Pre-slash is gen. Unless they're getting together at the end, it is not, in fact, slash fic. Do not label your "pre-slash" fics with pairings because that is MEAN and EVIL and just a terrible thing to do just to lure readers in. Be fucking honest about what it is you've written. If there's an implied relationship in the future that never even starts in your fic, then, I'm sorry. You've written gen fic. It's not slash. It's not pre-slash. In fact, I wish "pre-slash" on a whole would go away. It's gen or it's het/slash. There isn't an in between limbo place that you can label your fic as to lure in unsuspecting readers and then leave them completely dissatisfied.

Stop lying.

Pre-slash, pre-het, PRE ANY-FUCKING-THING is gen. And gen is a legitimate life choice. I've written gen. I've read gen. One of my best friends writes a lot of gen. I have nothing against it. But I like to know what I'm getting. And when something says pre-slash, that doesn't, to me, mean I am getting a 60k fic where the two people you've labeled in a pairing barely even have a crush on each other, much less even flirt.

So don't label your "pre-slash" with a pairing. In fact, don't label your anything as pre-slash. Because seriously, wtf even is that. I read so I don't have to make up my own endings. If your ending is gen, own up to it. If it's not, label it correctly.

/end rant.
