Dragon*KHAAAAAAAAN: Day 1

JUDGING BY HOW TODAY WENT, THIS MAY IN FACT BE THE GREATEST WEEKEND OF MY ENTIRE LIFE.

So I ended up skipping my afternoon class so I could drive back down several hours earlier, and it's probably a good thing I did because by the time I got to Atlanta and parked (about 3pm) the line for pre-registration (i.e. the people who bought their tickets IN ADVANCE) was 2 hours long and wrapped around the building. And the line for on-site registration? Nonexistent.

So as a result I missed the two Star Wars panels that I really wanted to go to.

BUT THIS WAS REALLY ALL OKAY BECAUSE I GOT TO MEET BRENT MOTHERFUCKING SPINER AND GET HIS AUTOGRAPH. I wanted to get a picture of him as Data but all the Data pictures were actually kinda creepy looking so I got a picture that looks almost exactly like his Twitter picture only he's holding a pair of glasses and not a cocktail. AND LET ME TELL YOU THAT MAN IS JUST AS UNF-WORTHY IN PERSON not to mention really sweet. Like, he chatted with me for a little bit as he signed the picture and I really tried to make intelligent conversation but my brain had practically shut down because I really just couldn't believe BRENT SPINER was sitting right in front of me.

And then, once he finished, he goes "Well Sarah darling, here you go *hands me picture* and nice to meet you." Oh God, the man is adorable and I very nearly fainted.

And I went to the Marinia Sirtis Q&A panel and only just managed to get in (for some reason, they gave her a really small room and could only fit in about 200 or so people and had to turn away a TON of people). There was this older gentleman dressed up as movie-era Scotty and let me tell you, he was the MIRROR IMAGE of James Doohan. Down to the mustache, hair, face, and everything (I wanted to take a picture but my camera battery decided to be a whore and die on me).

Then this lady comes up to introduce Marina and accidentally calls her Sarina Mirtis, and then got really flustered once we all laughed so Garrett Wang (Lt. Harry Kim from Voyager; he's in charge of Trek Track at D*C) smoothed things over and then Marina Sirtis came in and immediately decided that she didn't want the table and chair there because sitting at a table is for old people. Then she an Garrett had a quick photo-op and let us take pictures of them, and I did manage to get a couple. She is exactly as candid and funny and awesome in person as you would expect her to be. She also lends credibility to my theory that all Star Trek actors are destined to age gracefully and still look ~fabulous~ in their old age because that woman is 55 and doesn't look it.Her entire session was absolutely hilarious and I really wish I'd been able to film it because she's so entertaining that I was laughing almost the entire time, but I'll try to stick to some of the highlights.

She talked about how Patrick Stewart (whom she calls "Old Baldy") was apparently are very reserved and somewhat pompous guy when they first started but by the end of the show's run he was sillier than the rest of them. And apparently very early on, the cast sent on director "screaming into the night" because they were "too rowdy." And that she likes the poster for Star Trek: Generations because it has a picture of Kirk and one of Picard and she calls it "two captains, one hair piece." And then she talked about the hot tub scene in Insurrection and says that people always ask about how it was ~being in a hot tub with JFrakes~. She says they were in there so long and the water was so nasty that there was some sort of grey film on top of the water (gross). And that they would run the jets/bubbles and then once they stopped JFrakes would smirk at her or something and then she realize that her boobs were showing thus confirming in my mind that Riker and JFrakes are, in fact, the same person.

Finally, someone asked what her favortie scene was between Troi and Lwaxana (answer: and of the scenes in Menage a Troi), and Marina had apparently never been asked that question in 20+ years of convention going. And she talked about Majel and Gene Roddenberry and how they always invited her over for the holidays (since her entire family was back in England) and how Majel was like a second mother to her. And then she started tearing up a bit and I was like ;A; and it was basically one of the sweetest things I've ever heard.

So, that's about it. Tomorrow is John de Lancie's panel and the rest of the TNG crew will be there signing autographs, so it promises to be an epic day.
