Fridays and the VMAs

Friday is here again

Well, my second week of the semester was a little more in the groove than the first. At least I don’t feel like hanging myself now that it is over. Now that I am getting into them, I think these classes are going to be the best ones I have had at SIUC. The History is interesting, Anthony’s 533 is focused in my area, and Foucault at least has some cool people (you know who you are).

Speaking of Foucault, I am finding his Madness and Civilization very interesting when putting it into the perspective of working on a psych floor for a few years. The bureaucracy and rhetoric of the mental health care system is alive and well today.

Speaking of my mental health, Mike and I finally got our cable figured out and I can now watch comedy central and Project Runway at my leisure. Unfortunately, I also watched MTV’s Video Music Awards last night and got to see Jack Black and many others ruin what used to be an ok show. The few highlights were OK GO’s performance of their video choreography and Panic at the Disco, who should have won something since they were nominated in a billion categories.

EDIT: I guess Panic at the Disco did win best video or something. I went to bed before then.

Of course, a ton of really great bands weren’t even present and it was good to see a lot of the people (Lou Reed among them) pushing for MTV to play more Rock and Roll.
