Dark Blue - poem

Dec 22, 2011 22:28

The clip from Dark Blue, by Jack's Mannequin, inspired me to write a poem. And since I can't write Dutch poems to save my life, I'll just try to translate this so I can read it at national poem day. Anyway, let me know what you think?

I look out, over the walls
Into the night sky
It’s the fifth day since we started
And all I can see is dark blue
I can’t even see you anymore
Can only feel you
Trying to hold on as
Your feet are slipping
Your eyelids are drooping
And you are wondering whether
Death might be better than this
Death would be fast
Just one jump, and gone
And we’d be together forever.
Held by this cozy dark blue
It’s so tempting to give it up
But then, one slight glimpse
Of silver, of sharp edged
Blood-crusted rusty blade
And we’re back on our feet
The dark blue is not lifting
It’s becoming darker, showing us
What this will lead to
If we don’t win
One last jive
One last step
It’s never going to be enough
There are so many people watching
Hoping one of us will fail
Hoping one of us will win
Yet I’ve never felt more alone.
They only want to see our blood
I wonder if it will be dark blue
We’ve been here forever
Covered in the night
And as you fall out of my arms
Onto the inviting, punishing floor
That has been killing us
This is the last sight we will ever see.
