i'm doing some research on fish karma to prove, one way or another, whether or not he is in fact mojo nixon's alter ego, as ray, jon, and myself suspect.
"who the FUCK is FISH KARMA??" you may be asking right about now. okay, where should we start...
::timewarp::february, 2004::
one day while at disc junkie in hermitage, with ray versatile and jonny kunt, i came across a CD by one FISH KARMA on triple X records, entitled "sunnyslope". the cover was an extremely crudely rendered drawing of a rather hippy-looking character in the desert holding a bong and a can of beer, wearing a shirt that said "party animal" on it. this was all in water color and black pen. i flipped it over and the song titles got my attention rather quickly: "rockin' and rollin' with little baby jesus", "she likes to make love to led zepplin", "lunch with the devil", "dick york", "my parents are having a party", "gas grass or ass"... and the list goes on.
it had my interest, but like most things, i was ready to dismiss it at any moment, until i opened it up and read the credits: produced by MOJO NIXON.

i'm kinda obsessed with mojo nixon. i have no clue why. i've never heard his music, but his name's been dropped more people than i care to mention, plus he had that song about elvis being in your mom. and he played a bum in the super mario brothers movie. i think the fact that he's such a goddamned mystery, and most of his shit is out-of-print might have something to do with it.
::so anyway:: i go over to paul (owner of disc junkie and a helluva guy) and ask if i can listen to it. it sounded like bob dylan, drunk, singing for a cranked-up version of the dead milkmen trying to play backup for alice cooper. yeah, blew my fuckin mind, too. and just think, you're only READING about it.
the lyrics were probably the funniest shit i'd heard in a LONG time, and he was clearly trying to ape dylan's voice, only exaggerating it. and since every song featured different musicians (all of these were 4-track recordings with friends, afterall), it was a very stylistically varied album as well. and from that day on we all decided that this had to be a hoax.
::timewarp::present day::
somehow, i feel like i should've left it a mystery. turns out fish karma IS an alter-ego, but not mojo's. check this out:
