Best opening to a rant ever!

By including Sarah Jane and Torchwood in the finale, I'm am now quite determined never to try and watch Sarah Jane Chronicles (everything she and her computer said and did made me cringe), and not give Torchwood another chance unless I really, absolutely, have nothing better to do. I agree that the second series featured respectable moments, but losing the only characters that were of interest to me has put it back at square one as far as its continuation is concerned.

As for the season ending itself, it's as though RTD has deliberately made the franchise as difficult for Steven Moffat to build on as possible. Except not perhaps in the way RTD intended. I don't really care that the stealing of planets to make a machine that undoes reality across the entirety of all dimensions can't really be topped as far as bad outcomes are concerned. No. It's more that viewers aren't really going to shuffle towards the edge of their seats in wonder and anticipation when it seems as though the Doctor, his Tardis, UNIT, a random companion with some foreshadowing nonsense, or bloody K9 can pretty much solve any problem at all so long as some buttons and levers are conveniently nearby anyone at all during the last few minutes.

Donna is special is she? If such a fantastic array of tools was in the vault with no protection on it, I doubt Davros would be stuck in the vault in the first place. Why was he there anyway? It looks like TD was too busy trying to make characters like Martha Jones and Rose's Mum seem useful to get around to explaning anything of interest like the peculiar state of the Dalek's internal politics.

As painful as it may be, it might be worth temporarily losing the Tardis for a while, to reset things a bit. I wonder if this was the thinking behind the Jon Pertwee era? I'm not really familiar with the episodes of that time, but I wouldn't be surprised if the decision makers realised that they were heading for a car crash if they didn't make the story elements more manageable.

Could go on, but I fear if I did I'd lose track of time I'd be running on 3 hours sleep tomorrow!
