Two weeks ago Meredith and I went to Dallas, Texas for four days (Thr-Sun) to visit Emily and her fiance, Art. I learned something about Emily Gage and hosting while we were there and that is the former has mastered the later. Their apartment was lovely and well air conditioned, they had ample food and I was never hungry at the end of any meal, and I never felt like we were putting them out by being there even though I worried about taking too much of their hospitality, but hopefully we can reciprocate in time.
While in Texas we visited the aquarium, a renaissance festival, a local sushi restaurant owned ironically by Koreans (is that ironic?), and Emily's outdoor pool (which was refreshing given the suffering heat of Texas). Despite the temperatures, and a running nose that I couldn't get under control, we had a great time.
I enjoyed the aquarium immensely. The whole area was presented to look natural and interactive. Plants grew freely throughout the area and wooden bridges spanned fifty foot caverns.
The shows we saw at the renaissance festival were well done: a juggler, a fire whip cracker, a falconry, and lots of people in costume. The entertainers were experts at their craft and at working the audience. Marketers should take lessons from them.
On the way back from Texas, though, we both became incredibly uncomfortable on the airplane and arrived home feeling weakened and drained. We went to bed early and woke up sick. Meredith took a couple days off work and managed to recover mostly by Friday. I was registered for AMSOD bootcamp at work, had Hapkido testing that Monday, and an important meeting on Tuesday, so I worked through the sickness and suffered for it. Now, almost nine days later I am feeling 90% healthy again. Last week got bad, though, as bad as I've been in years. I slept for almost twelve hours on Wednesday alone, and barely did any physical exertion all week.
