Adventures in the Awesome Dorkitude of My Family

Jan 19, 2007 13:45

My sister was wanting to cook something for lunch and reading a recipe to ask my mom if we had "Italian herbs" - Specifically "basil, oregano, s-savory, sage, or m-, muh, ma-ra-JO-ram...?"

"Marjoram," I told her.

"No, it's not margarine," said she.

"Marj-o-RAMMMMM," quoth I.

At which point my mother, who was washing dishes at the sink, began singing - "Ma, ma, ma, ma, Ma-rjoram. Ma, ma, ma, ma, Ma-rjoram!"

My little brother is sitting in the next room reading and he hears, recognizes the tune, laughs, and continues the joke.

A few seconds later we (that is, my brother and I) have "written" the following song -

"Ma, ma, ma, ma, Ma-rjoram.
Ma, ma, ma, ma, Ma-rjoram!
Mar-jo-ra-aaa-am!
O, Mar-jo-ra-aaa-am!
Please spice my ha-aaa-am!
O, Mar-jo-ra-aaa-am!
You've got me shakin' and a-stirrin'
Boiiiiilin' and a-bakin', Marjoram,
Ma, ma, ma, ma, Ma-rjoram!"

*g*

Yes, we're absolute dorks.

my life, i am such a dork, stories, my family, dork!
